“ | You are the reason evil runs through my blood. You bit me once. Now feel what it's like to be bitten back. | „ |
~ Garmadon moments before killing the Great Devourer, the creature responsible for his rise in evil. |
“ | Don't you see? I will never do what's right. The evil in my blood can never go away. It has corrupted every ounce of my fiber, every bone in my body. I am Lord Garmadon. Destiny took my family from me, and the only way for us to be together is to turn everything in this world into my image. Then you'll all see what I see, feel what I feel! | „ |
~ Garmadon to Lloyd, Wu and Misako. |
“ | I've played many roles. Worn many masks. Father. Husband. Brother. Teacher. But only one was summoned back… Destroyer! | „ |
~ The resurrected Garmadon during his battle with Lloyd at Kryptarium Prison. |
Lord Garmadon, formerly known as Sensei Garmadon and temporarily Emperor Garmadon or simply Garmadon, is the main antagonist of LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
He is the son of the First Spinjitzu Master and the older brother of Sensei Wu who turned evil after being bit by the Great Devourer in his early childhood. After the venom in his blood fully consumed him following his father's passing, he tried to take over the world of Ninjago but was banished to the underworld by Wu. He took his signature helmet from Samukai and became the ruler of the underworld. He returned, in command of Samukai's army of skeletons, and became the archenemy of Wu and the Ninja Team.
His goal was to possess the four golden weapons of Ninjago until the weapons are destroyed but still, he continued to try to achieve his only true goal: recreate Ninjago in his own image. He ended up serving the Overlord, who was using him for his own goals, and turned good again after his son Lloyd defeated the Overlord. However, after meeting his end in the destruction of the Cursed Realm as a result of the Preeminent's demise, he would be resurrected in his evil form by Harumi and the Sons of Garmadon.
He is voiced by Mark Oliver, who also played Mechanikat in Krypto the Superdog, Lord Licorice in Candy Land: The Great Lollipop Adventure, Monstrox in Nexo Knights, and Grizzle in Care Bears: Adventures in Care-a-Lot, Julius Caesar in Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods and Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion, and Miles Dredd in Max Steel.
Personality[]
“ | You are Oni, but only in form. In your heart, I sense uncertainty and doubt. Part of you longs to understand these pitiful beings, to be one of them… your hopes weaken you. | „ |
~ Omega describing Garmadon's current personality as they fight. |
Before being bitten by the Great Devourer as a child, Garmadon was a kind and caring person, especially towards his little brother Wu. He was also already the wiser of the two brothers, advising Wu to never surrender to tomorrow what could be done the same day.
As a result of the bite inflicted by the Great Devourer, Garmadon slowly became corrupted by the evil in his heart, but was able to remain a good person until adulthood, although the venom caused him to have a few temper tantrums. When he was fully corrupted, Garmadon severed his emotional ties with Wu and lost part of his humanity, not hesitating to attempt to kill Wu after stealing the Golden Weapons for himself.
With his long stay in the Underworld as well as his partially Oni transformation, Lord Garmadon spent the next few years plotting to take control of Ninjago, obsessed with his deep desire to transform this world in his image.
Lord Garmadon is vindictive, choleric, cruel, manipulative, and has little tolerance for failure. He is also very suspicious, having seen Samukai's betrayal coming and not fully trusting Overlord. Regardless, he still cares about his son and even made a truce with the Ninjas and his brother to save him from the Serpentine, though the venom kept him from being fully reliable.
During Season 2, he still sought to dominate Ninjago but dreaded having to face his own son, not out of fear but because he still cared for him, just as he seemed to still have a love for his wife Misako. Despite having embraced his deepest darkness, Garmadon hated the Great Devourer for making him what he became and ultimately killing her for it.
After his resurrection, Garmadon became even eviler than before, devoid of the little humanity that his former self had and no longer having Devourer's venom in his blood to influence his actions which this time his own, as of all of his roles, only one returned: destroyer. As such, Garmadon becomes a shell of his old self, having little to no mercy as shown when fighting his son Lloyd at Kryptarium Prison and showing no signs of hesitation in hurting him. However, Garmadon has begun to show his good side again during his time with the Ninja against the Oni when he was trying to warn them that they are coming and aided them to use the Tornado of Creation to wipe them out for good. And after the Overlord's final defeat, Garmadon has managed to make amends with Lloyd and helps him and the Ninja rebuild the monastery after it was destroyed.

Quotes[]
“ | Past Garmadon: Hmm? What is the meaning of this? Garmadon: It is I, your future self! Past Garmadon: How can it be? Garmadon: I know you are searching for the Golden Weapons, and it is because of them that I have gone back in time and stand before you now. Past Garmadon: I don't understand. You have...uh, I have four arms. Garmadon: Yes, and I need your help to get rid of the Ninja once and for all. Listen carefully. Past Garmadon: That is truly evil. |

“ | Garmadon: Now, what are you jabbering about? Lloyd: What are you doing here? This makes no sense! Wu: You've been here the whole time? In the middle of Ninjago City? Explain this, brother! Explain the newspaper clippings, and — and — and why you're here, and ... and all of it! Garmadon: Hmm. I was hoping to avoid this conversation. But, since you're here, I may as well tell you the tale. |
„ |
~ Garmadon to Lloyd and Wu before explaining how he has been living secretly in the city. |
“ | Garmadon: It was after that squabble with the Omega Oni, after I saved all your lives. Lloyd: Wait, what? Wu: Lloyd. Garmadon (narrating): I didn't know what to do with myself. I was usually the one trying to conquer Ninjago, not save it. It was a ... peculiar feeling. I found myself confused. Why had I saved your lives? Did I actually care? I decided to do a little thinking. Take some ... me time. I had questions about the nature of good and evil. Heh, I knew all about evil, but little about good. And I was curious — did I have a capacity for good? Could I help people? All around me, I saw weak little humans trying their best to accomplish menial tasks. Like trimming bushes twig by twig, or trying to break ropes by pulling on them. It was madness, but I realized I was in a position to help them achieve their pointless goals. Lloyd: Their goals aren't pointless! They were trying to-— Garmadon: (burps) Do you intend to continue interrupting me, or may I finish? Wu: Finish, please. Garmadon (narrating): I was looking for answers, but didn't know where to look. I remembered the words of a wise man. Possibly the wisest I have ever met. Lloyd: The First Spinjitzu Master? Garmadon (narrating): Vinny, of NGTV News. Garmadon (narrating): These words meant nothing to me, but I wanted to understand them. So, I came here, and Vinny of NGTV News, in his infinite wisdom, welcomed me with open arms. |

But I have never found myself in a situation more hopeless than this! It's like you want Ninjago to fall to the Overlord! Harumi would at least have understood what I was getting at! | „ |
~ Garmadon complaining of Lloyd’s failure to achieve Oni Form, causing him to partially have such power in his hands. |
“ | Lloyd: Father! (saves him from being crushed by a crystal) You're hurt. Garmadon: I—-I can't ... Lloyd: It's okay. Don't try to talk. Garmadon: (reverts to his normal form.) I ... I'm sorry, Lloyd. Lloyd: Hold on. You'll be okay. I'll get you out of here! Garmadon: Save ... (coughs) Save yourself. It's too late for me. Lloyd: NO! (cries) |
„ |
~ Garmadon’s fake-out death after being injured by the Overlord, done so Lloyd could achieve Oni Form. |
“ | There. That wasn't so bad, was it? After all, I can't keep carrying you around forever. You're a plant. You should have roots. I once thought roots were a sign of weakness. Hmm. But I was wrong. We are stronger together. I must go help my son rebuild his monastery now. Hmm. An Oni, building instead of destroying. What next? What next indeed. | „ |
