The story of Lord Garmadon from LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
Pilot Episodes[]

Garmadon, now fully succumbed to the Devourer's venom.
In the Ninjago pilot episodes, Garmadon is betrayed by Samukai, but the skeleton is destroyed when he tries to possess the four weapons, and a portal to another dimension is opened, which Garmadon intentionally lets himself be sucked into, so he can become strong enough to wield the four weapons from inside. In the 2012 series, he returns from the void, now with four arms to help save his son from a group of snake people called the serpentine.
Season 1: Rise of the Snakes[]
Despite being evil, he loves his son and does not wish for Lloyd to become him, because Lloyd should find his own destiny because he never got to make the choice to become evil, hinting that the Great Devourer's venom could not corrupt his heart completely.
He also has shown hatred for the Great Devourer. He formed a truce with Sensei Wu and the ninjas to save his son. Once Lloyd is revealed to be the Green Ninja, both Lloyd and Garmadon are devastated knowing they would face each other in battle.
However, he tells Lloyd that even though they're now on opposite sides, he is still proud of him and used the skeleton army to help save the ninjas. In the season finale, he used the four golden weapons to destroy the Great Devourer and got his revenge on the giant snake, and then he ran off with the four weapons. Lloyd accepts he will have to face his father in the future and get his training from not only Sensei Wu but the four ninjas as well.
Season 2: Legacy of the Green Ninja[]
In Season Two, Garmadon returns, this time intent on destroying the ninja to prevent his son from reaching his true potential. Allying himself with the Serpentine, Garmadon rebuilds Destiny's Bounty in his own image, rechristening it "Black Bounty", and travels to the birthplace of the Golden Weapons, uniting them into a stronger one, the Mega Weapon.
Back in Ninjago, Skales leads the Serpentine in his plan to destroy Ninjago City, but they stumble upon a tomb filled with Stone Warriors. The Stone Warriors lock the Serpentine up, then leave to find their master, he who wears the helmet of shadows. The Overlord leads Garmadon to the Helmet of Shadows, and Garmadon takes control of the Stone Army. With guidance from The Overlord, Garmadon instructs his army to build the ultimate weapon, consisting of dark matter.
The Weapon is designed to transform whatever it targets into Garmadon's evil image. Using the dark island as his base, Garmadon is seemingly unstoppable. Once the ninja arrive, a war on the island breaks out. Garmadon realizes he will have to fight his son soon, but he doesn't want to.
At one point, the stone army captured Misako, Garmadon's wife, whom Garmadon has not seen since before he was cast into the Underworld. She tells him that Lloyd does not want to fight, which both comforts and scares Garmadon. Garmadon is ashamed of his evil ways, but still invites her to rule Ninjago by his side. Misako lies and tells him that she accepts, but she steals the helmet of shadows from him, leaving him angry and hurt.
When the ultimate weapon, Garmatron, is complete, Lord Garmadon leads his troops to the edge of the island, and aims the weapon at Ninjago. Lloyd, Sensei Wu, and Misako arrive and tell him to stop. Garmadon tells them that fate has turned his son, wife, and brother against him, and turning them evil is the only way for his family to be together.
Sensei Wu tells him that the Overlord is using him and that if he fires the weapon, the Overlord will be released. The Overlord insists that Garmadon ignore him and fire the weapon anyway, so Garmadon decides the Overlord is right and fires the weapon at Jamanakai village. The balance is then shifted, and the Overlord is freed. The Overlord possesses Lord Garmadon's body, and he transforms into a scaly, dragon-esque figure with claws, sharp teeth, a tail, and a head resembling a dinosaur's.
The heroes realize the "Dark Lord" referred to in the Green Ninja prophecy was not Garmadon, but the Overlord. Lloyd begins his fight with the Overlord, trying to tell his father to regain control over his body. Garmadon fights back, telling the Overlord that he will not hurt his son, but the Overlord wins and nearly kills Lloyd. Still possessing Garmadon, the Overlord, the Stone Army, and evil Nya teleport to Ninjago City, leaving Lloyd on the island with a broken leg.
Later, the Overlord transforms Garmadon's body into his original form, resembling a giant black dragon. When the ninja arrive in Ninjago City, almost everyone has been transformed into Garmadon's image. The Helmet of Shadows falls off of Garmadon's head when he turns into a dragon, having become too small for him. Dareth finds the helmet and takes control of the stone army.
Lloyd battles the Overlord and wins, transforming everything in Garmadon's image back to good. Lloyd is upset because his father's body is missing. But they find him shortly after that, only he is not the Garmadon they once knew. Garmadon is now transformed to look like his original self (Before being cast into the underworld) only much older. Every ounce of evil was drained out of Garmadon, making him good again. His family runs to him, and he is finally reunited with the people he loves.
Season 4: Tournament of Elements[]
Sometime later, he sacrifices himself by allowing himself to be banished in a mystical realm called the Cursed Realm to stop Master Chen. When the realm was completely destroyed at a later period of time, Garmadon also perished.
Season 8: Sons of Garmadon[]
Sometime after his death, a group of fanatics named the Sons of Garmadon have managed to resurrect Sensei Garmadon in his form of Lord Garmadon, completely devoid of all that remained of his humanity. Worse, Lord Garmadon behaves as if he is a separate entity to Sensei Garmadon who his friends and family knew and love, as when fighting Lloyd, he claimed that he had no son, much to Lloyd's dismay.
After unlocking his true potential by defeating Lloyd, Garmadon uses his new abilities to create the Colossi, a giant rock monster. After failing to capture toddler Wu, Garmadon succeeded in taking over Ninjago with Harumi by his side.
Season 9: Hunted[]
Emperor Garmadon oppressed Ninjago's citizens and sought out his son, who led a brave Resistance. In the eventual confrontation against Lloyd and Wu, it turned out that Lord Garmadon still retain his humanity just like when under Overlord's corruption. While he still ignored Lloyd's attempts to talk sense with him, Garmadon prevented Lloyd from falling to certain death twice and slowly revealed his true agenda: He intended to make Lloyd defeat him without holding back, so his son would be ready to fight an oncoming threat. Lloyd soon stopped fighting and resisted his father long enough for the latter to lose his power and him to regain his own. Having lost, Garmadon, apparently believing Lloyd is ready to inherit the responsibility of defending Ninjago from the Oni, accepted defeat and wanted Lloyd to finish him off, but Lloyd was unable to bring himself to do it and had him arrested and sent to Kryptarium Prison instead. In spite of damage he caused, Lloyd was implied to have forgiven Garmadon, after understanding his agenda.
Season 10: March of the Oni[]
Garmadon requests Lloyd to visit him in his High security, solitary cell built solely for him in Kryptarium prison. After the Prison Warden escorts Lloyd to the cell, Garmadon reminds Lloyd about his warning that the Oni will come and destroy Ninjago. Garmadon tries to convince his son to let him out so he can help stop the Oni, to which Lloyd immediately refuses. As Lloyd leaves Garmadon remarks to himself the Lloyd will be back. However when Garmadon's unheeded warning is proven correct, and the Oni take over Ninjago city and cover it in a dark cloud which will turn anyone who touches it into a statue, after arriving through the Realm Crystal, Lloyd and the rest of the Ninja come to Kryptarium prison and reluctantly tell the guard to let Garmadon out of the prison.
Now aboard the newly rebuilt destiny's bounty, Garmadon shuts off the ship's power although the Ninja manage to turn back on just before they hit the ground. Garmadon claims that the power button needs to be labeled although it already is. Garmadon sees a picture of him and Lloyd in the sleeping quarters on the ship and although Lloyd tries to make Garmadon remember the picture, Garmadon doesn't and throws the picture behind him. On deck, Garmadon explains to the Ninja that the Oni came to Ninjago through the realm crystal and that the realm crystal which has recently moved to the Basement of Borg Tower must be destroyed and that only he and Lloyd can go get it, as they the only one with Oni heritage which means that they will not be turned into the statue. They reluctantly give Garmadon a sword and after a brief fight with the Ninja, Garmadon regains his powers and jumps off the ship followed by Lloyd.
On the ground Lloyd and his father discover the frozen statues of many citizens including cyrus borg. After a struggle with two onis guarding the entrance, the two make their way into the basement of Borg Tower as Garmadon attempts to destroy the realm crystal but is stopped by an Oni who introduces himself as The Omega and reveals he is the Oni leader. Garmadon fights off the Omega while Lloyd finally destroys the Realm Crystal. However, the Omega reveals that destroying the crystal was pointless, as the crystal was merely that gateway by which the Oni opened the portal to Ninjago. Garmadon and Lloyd are defenseless against the might of the Omega until they discover the golden armor in a vault adjacent to where the Realm Crystal was held. Lloyd and Garmadon discover that the golden armor makes the Oni flee, so they use the armor to make their way outside and back onto the bounty.
Garmadon later participates in the defense of the reconstructed Monastery with the Ninjas as the Oni approach. In the meantime, he has handed over the remains of the Golden Master's armor so that the ninjas can reforge their ancient gold weapons. During the final confrontation against the Oni, Garmadon uses his full power to push them back but seeing that this is not enough against The Omega, he takes his full Oni form in an attempt to compete with the leader of the Oni. As they fight, The Omega feels that deep inside Garmadon wants to be one of the Ninjas again, which The Omega calls weakness before pushing him back, returning him to his previous and tired form. With the Oni taking over and restricting the Ninjas behind the monastery gates, Lloyd finds out to defeat them, the Tornado of Creation must be done with everyone, including a reluctant Garmadon. After hesitation and a look at one of the paintings of Lloyd, Garmadon ultimately chooses to join the ultimate Creation Tornado, leading to the defeat of the Oni.

Garmadon comic series[]
After Season 10[]
While leaving the Monastery Gramadon took off his warlord helmet, Wu catches up to Garmadon one more time and tells him saving the city was not the usual behavior for a conqueror while Garmadon denies having helped against the Oni out of the good of his heart, Wu then throws away his helmet to Garmadon's fury but then gives him his straw hat so he can begin his journey to redemption with it while telling Garmadon he'll never stop being his brother, perplexed Garmadon continues on his path.
Issue 1[]
He eventually found himself in a far away forest where he rests; while sleeping he finds himself in a nightmare fighting an opponent that he can't seem to defeat and calls him a failure at every role he tried to play, both good and evil, and even when he manages to chip away said opponent's helmet, he loses his weapon and said opponent reveals he won't ever beat him before Garmadon wakes up in fear. The next day Garmadon kept wandering until he found a bear attacking a young girl and her mother, unable to ignore their plight he tries to fight off the bear with his powers but finds out his powers of destruction are waning leaving him at a disadvantage; overwhelmed at first, Garmadon is saved by the girl and her mother who drop a tree on the bear and force it to flee. The two tell Garmadon their names, Min for the young girl and Saeko for her mother, and invite him to their home, Two Moon Village, so he can rest and they can honor his help. There Garmadon learned of the village's special Two Moon Tea which can restore one's strength and even restores his powers but also learns of the threat of the Red Crows, a gang of ruffians that extort the town out of their tea, while in turn the town is unable to get enough Tea for the Red Crows due to being impeded by the population of bears around the place. Garmadon plotted to help the villagers, while secretly aiming to obtain more of the Two Moon Tea so he could become strong enough to conquer Ninjago once and for all. Unknown to him, Ultra Violet reported his activities to her new master, Lord Mogra, a warlord that formerly had been an ally of the Elemental Masters but turned evil during the Serpentine War and became a rival to Garmadon and who had stolen his old helmet.
Issue 2[]
The next day after his arrival, Garmadon, alongside Min and some villagers go to find the Glimwillow Lillies needed for the Two Moon Tea, which are guarded by bears that the Red Crows fend off in exchange for the village's service. While he's out hunting the ingredients, Lord Mogra himself reaches the Village and extorts out of them what they know about Garmadon.
Garmadon and his party eventually reach the lair of Kuma, leader and progenitor of the bears. Then the shadow of Garmadon's dreams appears once more and attacks him, Garmadon then discovers said shadow is himself, or more specifically the incarnation of his sins and repressed guilty. After dealing with his shadow, Garmadon attacks a large bear that he thinks is Kuma but turns out to be merely one of her offspring; Kuma fends off Garmadon until the latter uses his powers to drop the cave's ceiling on her, giving him and Min free access to the Lillies. When they return to the village they find out Mogra and his followers have burnt it down.
Issue 3[]
Garmadon confronts the Red Crows and finds out the surviving Sons of Garmadon have forsaken their loyalty to him in favor of Lord Mogra after they found out he helped the Ninja and the warlord broke them out of Kryptarium. After defeating Killow when he tried to harm Min, Garmadon confronted Mogra but was easily defeated and beaten to near-death by his superior foe.
Issue 4[]
Mortally wounded from his fight with Mogra, Garmadon tries to find a place to recover but as he loses consciousness, he sees Lloyd coming to his aid and showcases his remorse over having hurt his son by being glad that he hasn't given up yet on him; however "Lloyd" is just Min who had found him and takes him back to her village to recover. Once Garmadon starts being in better shape he remembers his first fight against Mogra when the latter betrayed the Elemental Masters and how he once tried to tempt him to join his side and once he gets given Two Moon Tea he once more finds himself confronting his shadow, this time Shadow Garmadon instead shows him a vision of his childhood, specifically the moment where the Great Devourer bit him, then questions Garmadon is he's evil of his own volition or just a pawn of the Devourer's evil from beyond the grave. After fully recovering, Garmadon resolves to save Min's village and joins the rallied citizens to fight back.
Issue 5[]
Regardless of his previous attempt at helping, Garmadon's insecurities get the best of him once again and he fearfully attempts to leave but Min stops him only to give him back his hat and tell him he shouldn't feel forced to be evil before parting ways as the villagers decide to fight the Red Crows.
Garmadon reached the forest where the bear he had fought appears, having been beaten up by the Red Crows alongside his fellow bears, realizing they too are victims of the Red Crows and were only trying to defend their home; Garmadon rides it and gathers the bears to join forces with the villagers, before reaching Kuma and helping both humans and bears make peace. Garmadon then promises to take care of Lord Mogra.
Eventually Garmadon and his allies confront the Red Crows and the final battle begins where he and the villagers end up victorious and corner Lord Mogra, who Garmadon attempts to overload with power due to finding himself unable to win without a power boost from the Two Moon Tea; the infuriated Mogra tries to self-destruct so he can kill both Garmadon and all the villagers and bears out of spite before Garmadon unleashes his Oni Form due to remembering his desire for redemption and reconciling with the family he hurt and disowned, using his powers of Destruction to finish off Mogra once and for all.
Victorious once more and now coming to understand the side of good more clearly, Garmadon left Two Moon Village to continue his quest for redemption but not before bidding farewell to Min and leaving his helmet behind to signify his change.
Season 15: Crystalized[]
After the events of Two Moon Village, Garmadon returned to Ninjago City, wishing to see how normal people lived, how he could live a life beyond surviving and how to show compassion to others. He moved in with Vinny, wishing to learn more about kindness from him and after raising a potted plant named Christofern, who he saw as the representation of his hopes of reconciling with Lloyd, turned fully good and made a vow of nonviolence to atone for his sins, while sending hints to the Ninja about the emerging threat of the Crystal King and his army.
