I do not know if I have buried a hero... or a villain. In my travels I have heard many stories of Lord Haart's bravery and ultimate downfall.
~ Adrienne about Lord Haart.

Lord Haart is a playable character from Heroes of Might and Magic I, a minor character from Heroes of Might and Magic II, a major antagonist from Heroes of Might and Magic III: Restoration of Erathia and the main antagonist from the Heroes of Might and Magic III: Armageddon's Blade campaign Playing with Fire. He was a famous knight who was secretly the minion of the necromancers and the leader of a cult.

Biography[]

Haart fought on the side of Morglin in the First War of Enrothian Succession and on the side of Roland in the Second War of Enrothian Succession. In both wars, he showed that he was a great strategist and came out of the battles as a winner, gaining fame, esteem, and wealth. But in fact, during the second war, he was already secretly serving the Necromantic Order, but no one could prove him a traitor at that time. He lived in peace in his castle for some time after the war, but it was secretly rumored that he was the leader of a necromantic cult. One day, the legendary lich Sandro sent him a message. His plans for world domination included the death of the King of Erathia, Nicolas Gryphonheart, and Haart played a crucial role in this. Because he had completely free access to the capital, Steadwick, the plan was for the knight to poison the king, while Nighon, Eeofol, and the necromancers combined armies attack Erathia. Haart accepted the offer, but at the same time deliberately made the task difficult for the lich, because the knight had asked him to take the poison into his castle while he taking away most of his army. However, he did not tell his ally that he would leave garrison in the castle with talented heroes and he had a slight overpopulation problem with the peasants. Sandro, however, defeated them and left the poison in Haart's castle, and the peasants disappeared from the territory because they became undead. The knight poisoned Nicolas' food and wine goblet, killing him. After that, chaos broke out. The armies of Eeofol and Nighon captured Steadwick, and Finneas Vilmar, the king of the necromancers and Deyja, stole the coffin of the dead King Nicolas and resurrected his body as a lich. However, he could not control him, so Gryphonheart killed Vilmar and became the new king of Deyja. However, the lich king became so uncontrollable that some necromancers were already starting to worry. After Nicolas' daughter, Catherine Gryphonheart, defeated the armies of Eeofol and Nighon, she was secretly meeted with a necromancer, Nimbus, who gave her information and also told her about Finneas and Sandro's plans. She already knew who had betrayed her father and wanted to punish him, but in a unique way. She persuaded Haart to join with her and defeat the undead King Gryphonheart together. It is possible that seeing the possibility of glory, but the knight accepted the offer. Catherine and Haart launched a counterattack and defeated the necromancers in several battles. After several sieges and battles, they finally captured the castle where Nicolas Gryphonheart was. After the guard was destroyed by the attackers, Catherine stepped in front of her undead father, who did not hurt her. He exposed the traitor Lord Haart in front of him, and then his father jumped off the throne. The traitor knight rushed to the lich king to destroy him, but with one move, the undead crushed his heart and Haart died instantly. Catherine then freed her father from the curse of Finneas Vilmar and then Nicolas's soul leaved the world.

Loord Haart's death did not lead to the dissolution of his sect, but his followers became even more fanatical. They resurrected their leader who became an undead knight of death and followed him with unbroken loyalty. Haart, with the help of his cult and the help of the necromancers, attacked the swamps of Tatalia and they began to wreak havoc. The attackers began to exterminate the population and resurrect them as undead. A fire witch, Adrienne, took up the fight against the invaders. The swamp was flooded with the undead, and the witch had to defeat many of them, already in the beginning. However, his scouts reported that in addition to zombies and skeletons, they also saw others and they following a strange death knight. It was said that this knight was different from the others, and there was immense power and darkness around him. Adrienne also fought the forces of the necromancers, defeating the vampire Tamika and the lich Nagash. Meanwhile, she also learned that this certain death knight was Lord Haart, who went deeper into the swamp with his followers of the cult, so the fire witch followed him after her victory.

But then the war went in the wrong direction for Tatalia. Haart showed that he was an excellent strategist also on the side of the undead and he caused serious difficulties for Adrienne. Because almost all dwellings where new creatures or recruits could be recruited by the forces of Tatalia, the death knight left undead garrisons and guards, which also had magic. Thus, no matter how many times the recruits or the new creatures battled against them, the undead resurrected new zombies, ghosts and skeletons from the fallen opponents. Because of this tactic, the number of undead has increased tremendously, and Adrienne has been able to obtain little information as many of his scouts have been killed. A few days later, more bad news arrived. The Tatalian citizens fled into a deep, underground marshy tunnels, but the enemies were followed them and the undead slaughtered and resurrected all of them and they became moving, rotting corpses or ghots or skeletons. The real big hurdle, however, was when one of the lich or death knights came up with the great idea of leaving the strongest guards to guard the sawmills and ore pits. This was a very big problem because Tatalia's forces were built almost every building with ore and wood. The fire witch had a little advantage, that Haart left the area where she had arrived and left only two of his minions behind. However, the minions also had strong and powerful leaders. Sandro, Clavius, Xsi, Galthran, Isra and Septienna fought on their side, and Adrienne had to face Tamika and Nagash again. Meanwhile, Haart and members of the cult continued to burning to the forests, but the war continued. However, Adrienne won a huge victory because he successfully freed all the dwells and destroyed a dozen undead. He could then finally confront Lord Haart and the minions of his cult. However, the death knight immediately recognized the danger and was thoroughly prepared to defeat the fire witch. First, he accelerated arsons, wanting to ignite as many forests and areas as possible, thus making up for his losses by resurrecting the destroyed creatures and inhabitants. He then distributed his forces in several different directions and each army was led by a member of the cult. However, Adrienne defeated all of them and in the end, Lord Haart suffered his final defeat, and the forces of Tatalia wiped out the forces of evil from the swamps. However, the fire witch gave him the peace and buried him in an unnamed grave.

Personality[]

Haart was a typical role model of a knight that many dreamed of. He was noble, honest, and extremely loyal to his leaders, especially to Morglin. In fact, he was loyal to the necromancers. He was not a reliable person because he deceived anyone. Adrienne had heard of his bravery and downfall, so she couldn't decide if he was inherently evil or a fallen hero.
