Lord Lorne is a minor antagonist in Heroes of Might and Magic IV, The Price of Peace campaign. He was a rogue thief and later a powerful robber baron.

Biography[]

Lord Lorne was a thief and rogue who managed to gain considerable power and wealth, becoming a robber baron. He and two bloodthirsty barbarians, Gurt and Joklut Jawbreaker, kept their neighboring territories in constant terror and plundered the population. Lorne was absolutely not afraid of large-scale murders, on one occasion he killed twenty peasants near his castle who posed no threat to him, and he also captured the nearby gold mines, exterminating anything he could find near them. Lorne's plan was to conquer all the neighboring lands around his own territory, buying whoever or whatever he could, and killing those who were not for sale. In addition to the two barbarians, a new enemy appeared, Queen Emilia Nighthaven, who wanted to give refugees from the world of Enroth a new home in the kingdom of Great Arcan, but one of her towns, Longorton, was close to the territory of the three robber barons. For the rogue, the two barbarians were also enemies, and at first, he thought they would defeat the refugees and do whatever they wanted with the girl, but he was greatly mistaken, because both of them suffered a complete defeat and he was the only one left to face the queen. Lorne, however, did not want conflict at first, he rather wanted to buy the woman and the territory, so he sent one of his servants to give her a message and a thousand gold pieces. Emilia was not willing to have a private conversation, but wanted to hear the rugged-looking man in front of everyone in her camp. He told them about Lorne's offer, and how he was willing to pay ten times that amount every year if they would give themselves to him. Emilia refused the offer and returned the gold, but the courier insisted that she keep it, otherwise Lorne would think he had failed in his mission and execute him. Lorne then launched his armies, which were defeated and Emilia successfully captured the gold mines and then the robber baron's western town. Only his own castle remained, but Lore decided to defend what was his and prepared for a siege with his remaining forces. In the final battle between the two, Emilia defeated Lord Lorne, who did not die, but the queen imprisoned him and never released him due to the crimes he had committed.

Personality[]

Lorne was a rather corrupt, materialistic, ambitious and vile person. He wanted to solve almost every problem exclusively with gold, he didn't care about the quantity, only the result, and if this idea didn't work, he chose war or murder.
