~ Lord Malice. |
Lord Malice is the main antagonist of Army Men: Sarge's War. He was formerly Major Gooding, a member of the Green Army and the leader of Sarge's squad. However, after being injured in a skirmish and believing that the Greens had left him behind, Gooding joined the Tan Republic and was rebuilt as an officer in their army.
History[]
Major Gooding and his squad were attacked by Tans while marching through enemy territory. Gooding had his right arm blown off and all the other members of his squad were killed except for Sarge. Believing Gooding to be dead, Sarge called in an airstrike and boarded a chopper to get away from the scene. Gooding attempted to call out to him, but Sarge couldn't hear him.
Gooding's body was then recovered by the Tans and rebuilt with a mask and mechanical arm. Angry at the Green Nation for leaving him, Gooding willingly joined the Tan Republic and took on the name of Lord Malice.
Hearing that General Plastro was signing a peace treaty with the Green Nation, Malice and his faction of Tans planted a bomb at the treaty signing in Greentown. Sarge heard about the plot, but was unable to stop it before Malice detonated the bomb. With his comrades killed, Sarge sets off to get revenge on Malice.
Sarge eventually reaches Malice's fortress where he confronts and defeated Lord Malice. As he lays dying, Malice is asked by Sarge about why he killed the Greens and Tans in Greentown. Malice replies that he did it to make him suffer. Sarge then lifts off Malice's mask to discover that Malice was actually Major Gooding. Malice dies soon after.
Trivia[]
- During the final cutscene of Army Men: Sarge's War, machines can be seen which bear the names of Bravo Company, as well as Vikki and Col. Grimm. It is unknown what the significance of these machines are, but it's possible that Malice either cloned them, or this is where the originals are stored.
- If this is the case, it makes Malice's motives unclear, as it would be illogical for him to make Sarge suffer, yet save his friends in some form.
