Lord Onsten is a minor antagonist from Heroes Chronicles: Revolt of the Beastmasters. He was an Erathian noble, one of the main supporters of Mad King Gryphonheart, an evil and cruel oppressor.
Biography[]
Lord Onsten was an Erathian noble, but he was already notorious for his cruelty. He and two other nobles, Baron Paglon and Earl Rambert, were supporters of the Mad King Gryphonheart, who subjugated and enslaved the mud landers who had previously been slaves to the barbarians. Onsten was one of the most active participants in the abuse, forced labor and torture of the mud lander. One day, however, the immortal hero Tarnum led an uprising and his first target was Onsten. However, the slaves only moved slowly because they were afraid of the noble's anger, and there was also a law that no more than three people could talk, otherwise they would be whipped. Tarnum and the rebels set out several days later, but were not fully prepared for how cruel Onsten was.
Several days later, Tarnum and the rebels seized some of the mines, but they were all horrified by what they saw. The slaves were chained to the walls, their workplace was also their home, they had to live, work and die there. They were very emaciated and smelly as they could not clean themselves. Tarnum was also horrified, for even the wizards had not treated the barbarians so cruelly, nor had they treated the mud landers so cruelly. The rebels found a mystical garden, which was guarded by halberds, and one of them declared that Onsten steals the leprechaun's gold every week, but if anyone else dares to do it, the person will be killed by the soldiers. Tarnum believed this to be an example of hypocrisy, so he killed the soldiers and took the leprechaun's gold to use for noble purposes. However, Onsten began the reprisals at the beginning of the rebellion. To the south, Tarnum found a group of crossbowmen hanging half a dozen lizardmen, who were probably runaway servants, from a tree. However, this only earned the wrath of the rebels, who killed the soldiers, but Onsten then showed the rebels his true face.
Several days later, the noble sent a message to the rebels and Tarnum, the message was a limbless gnoll. The creature tried to escape from its captors, but was captured, and Onsten cut off both of its arms and legs, burned the wounds, and then left it on a road. The evil noble deliberately left him alive to keep the other servants in fear for several days, but Tarnum ordered that the dead creature be given a good and decent burial. However, Onsten's plan was partially effective, because many of the rebels were frightened and believed that it was not necessarily worth fighting if they were going to be punished so brutally, but in the end they did not give up their goal. A large group of runaway slaves surrendered to Onsten and begged for mercy. The nobleman's response was to put a chain around each of their necks and order them to dig a huge pit in the swamp. After they were done Onsten ordered all the slaves to go to the hole, archers surrounded them and killed them all. The rebels were so shocked by the news that they almost lost their will to fight, but Tarnum was angry and wanted to kill the evil noble anyway. However, the situation was favorable for the rebels, Onstent's army was defeated in open combat, and finally they laid siege to his castle, which the attackers successfully captured, and Tarnum killed the cruel nobleman.
