Lord Piggot appears as the leader of the society of other men and Sir Lionel’s rival. Lionel receives a letter, acknowledging the appearance of a Sasquatch, making a deal with Piggot-Dunecby that would allow him to join to society if he proved the creature is real. Once Lionel begins to travel, Piggot-Dunceby hires a bounty hunter named [[Willard Stenk]] to kill Mr. Link (the Sasquatch) and Lionel, ensuring that he never ridicules his society with his continuous searches. Stenk spies Mr. Link (renamed Susan, after a prospector who befriended once) and Lionel, along with Adelina Fortnight (the widow of Lionel’s late partner and friend, who came to their journey with them) on their trip to the Yeti Temple. Once they arrive and come in, Piggot-Dunceby, his loyal, but neurotic assistant [[Mr. Collick]] and Stenk are waiting outside of the temple. Once they come out of the temple, Piggot-Dunecby reveals his true colors to Susan, Lionel and Adelina. He attempts to kill Susan, but Lionel and Adelina challenges him that they will also have to be killed with Susan. Piggot-Dunceby takes the gun and starts to break the ice bridge, making it all crack, but before he could do it break it one more time, Susan stops his gun, calls him a bad man, and throws it into the cliff. Susan, Lionel and Adelina are able to escape, but Piggot-Dunceby and Collick fall to their deaths.

I'm sorry, but I can't let you ridicule my society. Nobody will find out that this Sasquatch ever existed, and nobody will say your name ever again!
~ Piggot-Dunceby revealing his true nature to Susan Link, Sir Lionel Frost and Adelina Fortnight.

Lord Piggot-Dunceby is the main antagonist of Laika's 5th full-length animated feature film The Missing Link. He is the leader of the Society of Great Men and both Susan Link and Sir Lionel Frost's rival.

He was voiced by Stephen Fry, who also played General Melchett in Blackadder Goes Forth, Reaver in Fable, Arthur Wellesley in Blackadder, Master of Laketown in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Trilogy and Malvolio in Twelfth Night.

Personality

The best way to describe Lord Piggot-Dunceby is that he is an arrogant conservative. He holds his exclusive club in high regard due to seeing them as "great men" who shape the world and has incredible disdain for progressive thinking whether it be the theory of evolution, the discovery of electricity or women's suffragette. Basically, he is proudly old-fashioned and prefers to keep holding on to traditional values rather than accept new ideas that will make them obsolete, describing them as uncivilized.

This attitude is why he is at odds with Sir Lionel Frost, who has a great deal of belief that mythical creatures exist when Piggott-Dunceby is more dismissive of them. Also, despite his arrogance, it's shown that he's pragmatic enough to not underestimate Frost's ability and hires Stenk to kill him before he manages to find evidence of Bigfoot rather than see him fail on his own accord, but this was to preserve his pride so that Sir Lionel won't ridicule it with his expeditions to find mythological beasts.

His prideful nature lengthens to the fact that when he does find out that Lionel was right, he does everything in his power to keep Lionel from returning to civilization, showing that even when faced with incontrovertible evidence that he was wrong, Lord Piggot-Dunceby is too stubborn and full of pride to accept change. In addition, whenever the good guys manage to evade his tactics, he acts like a spoiled brat, throwing a childish but comedic tantrum in one scene.

Quotes

This is where it ends, Frost. I can't allow you to go any further. Look at you. Hand in hand with apes and women. You'll never be one of us. (Chuckles)
~ Lord Piggot-Dunceby to Sir Lionel Frost when he and his henchmen confront the protagonists on the ice bridge.
No one will ever know what you found here. And no one will ever remember your name. (Laughing)
~ Lord Piggot-Dunceby to Sir Lionel Frost as he prepares to kill the heroes.
What? Heh! That's... that's preposterous. Of course you want to be one of us. We are great men! We shape the world!
~ Lord Piggot-Dunceby to Sir Lionel Frost in confusion when the latter denounces Piggot-Dunceby and his club.
Order will prevail! Civilization endures! (Susan stops his gun. He looks at him) (Susan: You're a bad man) (Susan throws his gun away. The cracks starts to expand in the bridge) (Adelina: Run.) (Everyone except Piggot runs) Huh? Oh, bugger
~ Piggot last words before falling off the bridge.

Trivia

  • Piggot-Dunceby is the third Laika villain to be a male, the first being Archibald Snatcher and the second Raiden the Moon King. Piggot-Dunceby is also the seconday Laika villain to die, the first being Archibald Snatcher.
  • He serves as an antithesis and foil to both Susan and Sir Lionel.
    • For Susan, he's appeared different, hated and shunned but selfless, timid and kind, as for Piggot-Dunceby, he’s normal looking and loved and respected but selfish, arrogant and careless, to the fact that Sir Lionel makes the point that Susan make a better human being than the latter.
    • For Sir Lionel, he and Piggot-Dunceby have both somewhat similar personalities but both are handled differently. Lionel starts out as prideful, wanting only to join Piggot-Dunceby's Society to prove himself as a great man, but has redeeming qualities like the fact that he is a man of his word as goes out of his way to get the Missing Link (Susan) to the Himalayas to be with his cousins. Piggot-Dunceby, on the other hand, maintains his prideful nature and proves to lack redeeming qualities and is also shown to be underhanded and deceitful as he takes measures to make sure he wins his bet with Lionel rather than seeing him fail on his own.
  • He's also similar to Gale Nolan from Dead Poets Society as both of them refuse to accept the idea of change and care more about their outdated traditions.
  • Next to Archibald Snatcher, he is the second villain from Laika who has no supernatural abilities.
  • He is one of the few villains in an animated film to be absent from any trailers and commercials.
  • His name is pun of the word "biggot", which reflecting his stick-in-the-mud personality.
