“ | I can't understand how he managed to avoid being eaten. Hmmm... He's always had an unusually close connection with insects, and I know he loves to cook them! Maybe he wasn't kidnapped after all... Could he have been controlling that beast all along?! No... that's craziness! Although... he does insist now that we address him by his 'proper title', the King of Bugs. | „ |

Louie is the deuteragonist in the Pikmin franchise.
He is a deliveryman at Hocotate Freight who is more interested in fueling his own appetite than his job, and puts his desires above all else. This leads to him sabotaging his coworker, Captain Olimar, in the latter's attempts to escape PNF-404.
He is voiced by Kazumi Totaka.
Biography[]
Past[]
For most of his known childhood, Louie was raised by his grandmother, who made the boy eat bugs and plants as a result of not playing outside. While intended to be a punishment, these events, combined with Louie's already insatiable hunger, seem to have kickstarted Louie's constant desire to feast on bugs, and seemed to give him a sort of connection to wildlife.
Over the years, his hunger would grow and grow, with his biggest craving being the ever elusive Golden Pikpik carrots. While Louie would grow up as an unassuming young man who was hired by Hocotate Freight as a worker, he would wait for the right opportunity to satisfy his desire.
Pikmin 2[]
Louie was one of the employees of Hocotate Freight and worked alongside Olimar, delivering packages to other planets. On one of his missions, while Olimar was stranded on a distant planet, Louie was tasked with delivering Golden Pikpik Carrots to another planet; however, in his hunger, Louie would eat them and blame a "ravenous space rabbit", this would cause the company to be put into a 10,100 Pokos debt which they had no hope of repaying.
When Olimar returned and he and the President of Hocotate Freight discovered that the planet Olimar was stranded on had extremely expensive treasures, he and Louie were tasked with going there to collect treasures to pay off the debt. The two, with the help of the Pikmin manage to do so, however, when Olimar flies off the planet, he notices Louie is missing. Whether Louie choose to stay behind or was accidentally left there is unknown.
Later at the bottom of the Dream Den cave, the President and Olimar find Louie sitting on top of a large pile of treasure which soon erupts into a large beast called the Titan Dweevil, a large spider-like creature which uses the treasures as elemental weapons to kill the Pikmin (instead of eating them) and possibly Olimar and the President themselves.
Once all of the treasures are removed from the beast, the Titan Dweevil becomes helpless with Olimar and the President being able to kill the monster and successfully save Louie and take him back to their home planet of Hocotate.
Later, both the AI of the Hocotate Freight Ship and Olimar speculate that Louie had full control over the Titan Dweevil, a hypothesis supported by Louie's request to be called the King of Bugs.
Pikmin 3[]
After the events of Pikmin 2, Louie and Olimar went on an expedition to the planet PNF-404 to find more treasure because of the President of Hocotate Freight's expensive spending habits and the failure of his new business. After Olimar is captured by the Plasm Wraith, Louie would go off on his own, collecting the fruits of planet PNF-404 before eventually being captured by the Scornet Maestro, a large bee-butterfly-hummingbird creature with harp-like barbs on its beak, at the Twilight River.
Once Alph, Brittany and Charlie save Louie, thinking that he is Olimar, they keep him on the S.S. Drake with them due to his suit putting him in a forced hibernation. After they fall asleep, Louie awakens sometime before them and lands their ship at the Garden of Hope while stealing all of their juice before running away, blowing up a hole to access an area the crew couldn't go to before.
Louie took a moment to relax, thinking he had escaped from the three before being eaten by the Quaggled Mireclops. Once again, Alph, Brittany and Charlie save Louie, labelling him as a food thief before tying him up in rope. Now that they have him cornered, Louie explains who he is and where the real Olimar is before yelling for food to the annoyance of the crew.
After Alph, Brittany and Charlie save Olimar, he thanks them before asking if Louie caused them any harm or stole their food which the three confirm that he did as Louie walks around, yelling for food while still tied up in the rope. Both he and Olimar would be flown back to planet Hocotate.
Pikmin 4[]
In this alternate timeline where Olimar never managed to leave PNF-404, the company's president sent Louie after Olimar in order to rescue him. However, instead of actually focusing on rescuing him, Louie focused on eating the local wildlife after getting sick of his grandmother's cookies. Together, with the help of some wild Pikmin, Louie would eventually come across Olimar's leafling form, but decided to go against orders and leave him alone because he "seemed happy enough", instead taking notice of his companion Moss.
During the events of the game, Louie became accustomed to his life in the wilderness, but due to his job, Louie had falsified reports about not finding Olimar. After the Rescue Corps find and cure Olimar, the group leave the planet, unaware that Louie, alongside numerous other castaways, are still on the planet. During this time, Louie would find Moss, and the two would team up.
After the Rescue Corps notice that their rescue pup Oatchi had developed a leaf-like tail and is dying from leaving the planet's atmosphere, they decide to turn back and find someone who could help cure Oatchi from his ailment.
During their search, they come across Louie and Moss, who had kidnapped the Koppaite castaway Yorke for reasons unknown. Although attempting to convert Yorke into a leafling for an unknown reason, Yorke had eaten Glow Sap, making the process impossible. Despite this, Louie still held Yorke hostage for reasons unknown, only giving him up once defeated in a Dandori Battle.
After his defeat, Louie and Moss would run off to the Primordial Thicket, where he would attempt the same process on Nelle, a veterinarian who is key to Oatchi's survival and also just so happened to have a bit of Glow Sap on her that caught Louie's attention. Failing once again, Louie is shocked, running off, abandoning Moss in the process.
As a replacement, Louie hunted down a giant monstrous dog known as the Ancient Sirehound, who he had previously been spotted earlier. Taking control of the beast, he decides to lay low in its den, known as the Cavern for a King. Hoping to feast on the bugs there, he hopes that the sheer density of monsters in the cave would overwhelm the Rescue Corps and leave him alone.
Unfortunately for him, the Rescue Corps needed DNA from the Ancient Sirehound to cure Oatchi of his leaf tail in order for him to leave the planet, so the protagonist and Oatchi venture into the cave. Enraged, Louie takes control of the Ancient Sirehound, attempting to kill the group in a last-ditch effort to leave him be.
Louie is eventually defeated by the party, and the Ancient Sirehound flees, dropping its collar and reverting to its normally peaceful state. Louie is apprehended to prevent any more trouble, and can be found at the base in the post-game, where he has mostly cooled off. He gives the protagonist quests to recover corpses of creatures for him to prepare. In exchange, Louie can teach the protagonist the "Extra Hand" ability, allowing them to help carry things alongside their Pikmin.
After the game is over, Louie, alongside the rest of the castaways, would return home to their respective planets.
Other Media[]
Super Smash Bros.[]
In the Super Smash Bros. series, Louie has consistently appeared in multiple games in collectable form, appearing as both a trophy and a sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a trophy in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and a spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In the last of these appearances, Louie's spirit takes the form of an Ace-rank, Grab-type spirit without any special abilities. This spirit is notable, however, in being one of the few spirits only obtainable through summoning, with the player needing the spirits for Snorlax, the Postman, and any Grab-type core to summon them.
Appearance[]
Louie is a miniature fair-skinned man with a tuft of blond hair and a bulbous pink nose. His company uniform is a beige spacesuit with blue gloves and 2 buttons, outfitted with a whistle and a glowing blue beacon antenna on its helmet.
Personality[]
“ | Louie has become even more problematic. All he does is nod or shake his head. And yet he consumes three times the amount of food that I do. Not cool, Louie...not cool. | „ |
~ Olimar describing Louie's change in a voyage log in Pikmin 3. |
The most notable trait about Louie is his endless appetite, especially for the wildlife on PNF-404. Having prepared entire meal recipes for each and every one of the creatures encounterable in the games, Louie is a master at cooking and survival.
Louie is also known for being generally quiet, with most of his desires being up in the air, and he is mostly known to be very forgetful and apathetic towards anything he does not value. According to his description as the King of Bugs, he operates on the same wavelength of bugs, giving him some sort of connection to them. Whether or not this is true is unknown, though considering he takes control of the Ancient Sirehound (and arguably the Titan Dweevil aswell), this might have some merit.
In Pikmin 4, Louie's personality takes a nosedive into villainy, as without anyone else to control him, his flaws become much more apparent, getting to the point where he is now perfectly willing to kill the people trying to rescue him just so they can leave him alone. Louie generally acts much more childish, with nearly all of his entries being either how to prepare something for a meal or wishes as to how he can mess around on the planet. Generally, Louie seems to be more accustomed to PNF-404, despite the air being poisonous on the planet and everything trying to eat him. Despite this, he does genuinely like Olimar, as he appreciates that Olimar doesn't get too mad at him for his mistakes, although he heavily dislikes how much he talks.
Louie cares for very little, with his grandmother being the only person he consistently dotes on; although he also seems quite friendly with Olimar. Louie also seems to like the Ancient Sirehound, calling it the "ultimate ride" and expressing regret that he has to leave it behind. Other than that, he seems to only like people if they have use for him, seeing as he abandons Moss for the Ancient Sirehound as the latter seemed more fun to ride.
