| “ | Back then before the Moon Maiden was born, the blessing of the moonlight was dwindling away, and the rites were starting to lose their power. To keep them going, Lovia committed grave acts of blasphemy. Because she was stricken from memory — that is to say, removed from the historical record — I don't know the exact details. All I could find out is that she collaborated with outsiders and caused harm to many innocent people. It's said that before Lady Aila was born, there was a follower who fell in love with an officer from Snezhnaya. After they eloped, Lovia sent people after them and... I think you can guess the rest. It was brutal stuff. | „ |
| ~ Vernadska referring to archpriestess Lovia's crimes. |
Lovia was a posthumous supporting antagonist in the 2020 action open-world role-playing fantasy video game Genshin Impact. She was the last archpriestess of the Frostmoon Scions since the Fall of Hyperborea. She was the grandmother of the twins, Aila and Alia. After her death in the hands of her granddaughter Aila, Lovia was condemned by the priests of Frostmoon Scions for committing the blasphemy, with the aid of Rauthvangi (aka Rotwang, the Mad Monk), and harmed many of her people in the name of birthing the "heir of Elysium".
History[]
Lovia was originally an orphan from the outside the Frostmoon Scions, who was adopted by the previous Archpriestess. She's an older sister of the mother of Reed Miller. Eventually, she succeeded becoming the next Archpriestess of the Frostmoon Scions. Her goal was for the sacred heir of Elysium, which the Frostmoon Scions believed will destined to come one day, to be received. After her younger sister, who was supposed to bear the heir, eloped with an officer from Snezhnaya, she asked Rauthvangi, the Mad Monk also known as "Rotwang", to help capture her. He sent a spy to capture her, but after the young officer was killed, the woman killed as well, leaving Reed Miller surviving and live on his own. Without her to bear the sacred heir, Lovia aims for the lesser branch of the bloodline for spares, as she hatches the terrible scheme of raising the twins, Aila and Alia, as her granddaughters so that they can bear the heir of Elysium.
Trivia[]
- Lovia's name was derived from Loviatar, which depending on the myth is either an alternative name of evil queen Pohjola Louhi from The Kalevala, or a seperate goddess who is the daughter of the Death God. Either which, she's a deity associated with death and disease in her own right.
