Thank you for illustrating to the world that I am indeed invincible.
~ Loxodont after easily defeating Clairen.

Loxodont, also known by various titles such as Emperor of Flame and Eternal Emperor, is a notable antagonist in Rivals of Aether. In the present, he's a deceitful minister of trade who wishes to take control of the Fire Empire and rule Aether with its power, a goal he largely succeeds at in one potential future.

Loxodont was introduced alongside the game's story mode on March 28th, 2017.

Biography[]

Once Minister of Trade and part of the Fire Council, Loxodont had bigger ambitions. Plotting to murder the current emperor, Renburn, Loxodont had his men use a knife identical to that of Renburn's son, Forsburn, to frame him for murdering his father. Forsburn, discovering the corruption, quickly hid in the hopes of revealing the ploy to his brother, Zetterburn. However, when his brother returned, Loxodont and his men quickly convinced Zetterburn of Forsburn's guilt, as well as the idea that Loxodont being crowned the new emperor was his father's wishes. Though Forsburn tried to reveal the truth to his brother, Zetterburn refused to believe him and viciously attacked Forsburn, forcing him to barely escape with his life.

Eventually the day for Loxodont to become the new emperor arrives; he is to be presented with The Flame Imperium to grant him the Rule of Fire. Zetterburn watches, a bit distrustful. However, a purple shadowy version of Orcane suddenly appears and steals The Flame Imperium before leaping into a puddle and disappearing. The Fire Council orders Zetterburn to retrieve the Flame at once, and Zetterburn, ever loyal, does exactly that, heading down to Merchant Port, Orcane's home, and setting the entire port ablaze.

However, though he found the purple Orcane and recovered the Flame, Zetterburn didn't return home, but instead ended up fighting the Abyss in a vast crater, before mysteriously vanishing and never returning home, alongside others, notably his brother, Forsburn.

Loxodont meanwhile, took complete control of the Fire Empire, using its power to crush all who opposed him and leading the world towards dystopia. Using technology, Loxodont replaced his mortal body with a robotic form, greatly increasing his power and allowing him to become the Eternal Emperor.

Though many despised Loxodont for his tyranny and cruelty, few were brave enough to openly oppose him. However, one individual, Clairen, had other plans. After pretending to be a loyal soldier in Loxodont's militia and rising to the rank of Royal Guard, Clairen attempted to use the very Plasma Saber she had just been given to cut Loxodont down for good. Unfortunately, Loxodont had become far too powerful, and Clairen was easily defeated and set to be executed, though she managed to escape and travel to the past with a time machine Loxodont had ordered to be constructed in an attempt to finally obtain the Rite of Fire.

Other Appearances[]

Lovers of Aether[]

Though Loxodont doesn't physically appear, he's mentioned as being the principal of Aether High, with him constantly speaking through the school intercom directing students to their next class.

While he's acting as a school principal, Loxodont is clearly just as cruel and egotistical as his original counterpart, as for starters, the intercom system being modeled after his own face, the manner which he speaks demonstrating his ego, and Loxodont also being suspiciously aware of what's happening around the school, despite never physically appearing. Meanwhile, Maypul claims to have him as her mentor, which she herself very obviously demonstrates by claiming to be perfect, putting herself in positions of power with deceitful methods, and requesting the player pledge their everlasting servitude to her. But the smoking gun of it all is Clairen, who reveals that just like her original counterpart, Loxodont would eventually became the Eternal Emperor, transfer himself into an unstoppable robot body, and turn the world into a dystopian nightmare, forcing her to come back in time to stop him.

Personality[]

Loxodont can be described by his vanity and ego, with him turning the Fire Empire, that once stood for honor and the warriors that composed it, into a soulless husk that stands for nothing more than his own greed. Loxodont has an incredibly high opinion of himself, believing others have no higher purpose in life than to serve him, destroy his enemies, and protect his own interests. Even when Clairen attempted to kill him instead of serving, while Loxodont appeared slightly disappointed at her choice, largely appreciated her attempt, as it presented him with the opportunity to show the world just how powerful and unbeatable he is.

Though Loxodont is indeed powerful, this also leads into another notable trait of his: deception. Loxodont built his empire upon countless lies and acts of deceit, from murdering Renburn, who seemingly thought of him as a friend, to framing his son, Forsburn, for the murder, presenting this lie as the truth, on top of spreading more lies such as leading the Firelands into a golden age as he attempts to create a perfect world. Well, a perfect world for Loxodont, surely, but clearly not everyone else.

Powers and Abilities[]

Loxodont's mechanical body grants him immense power, from incredible strength and durability to flame manipulation. Loxodont's future incarnation has been described as being completely invincible, and he does a good job of living up to that description.
