“ | THE FINAL BOSS IS ME OF COURSE. | „ |
~ Lucifer |
Lucifer is the main antagonist of Daniel Mullin's connecting series. He's the main antagonist and final boss of the video game Pony Island and one of the two overarching antagonists The Hex and Inscryption. He is the creator of the video game Pony Island in which he harvests souls so that he may force them to play it. When the protagonist is trapped in playing the game, Lucifer attempts to harvest their soul as well.
Biography[]
Pony Island[]
Throughout the game, Lucifer attempts to steal the protagonist's soul to add his collection. The protagonist, however, has the aid of h0peles$ouL, a fellow trapped soul who helps the player get access to and delete the core files of Pony Island, which when removed all at once would destroy the game. Furious at the player somehow beating his supposedly impossible levels, Lucifer adds more and more levels and shut down access to certain areas, to no avail. Eventually, after the game crashes, a furious Lucifer uses a sleeping gas to knock the player into a deep sleep. Awakening after a three-hundred and thirty-one year long slumber, Lucifer tries a new tactic, replacing the game to seem more welcoming and child-friendly and appearing in the game as Louey, the unassuming guide to the player. However, Lucifer's poor coding causes this trick to fail and causing Louey's demise. After Asmodeus.exe, Azazel.exe, and Beelzebub.exe are defeated, the souls of those trapped in the game freed, and the game slowly being deleted, Lucifer appears to strike down the player to take back their souls in both his normal and Louey form. Lucifer, however, is overwhelmed and mangled to pieces, later erased by the game's deletion.
The Hex[]
Lucifer is one of the two overarching antagonists of The Hex alongside Carla Dosa. While the latter's role is more obvious, Lucifer's is very much present. Having escaped Pony Island upon its deletion, he has gone on to start a new company by the name of GameFuna. It's more than likely that he is also the creator of the Gameworks. A highly advanced software developing tool that the game's main antagonist, Lionel Snill uses with the assistance of Admin T. Irving. True to Lucifer's nature in Pony Island however, GameFuna becomes infamous for its bad ports of games. Its influence first being known when Lucifer buys the rights to the Super Weasel Kid series from Lionel.
This business relationship persists, as whenever Lionel's games begin to perform unlike he intends, or he simply gets tired of making them, he sells out and lends the rights to Lou Natas. Lou also begins milking games he sees as profitable, developing countless sequels to Combat Arena X once given the rights. It's also shown that Lou has generally become a producer for Lionel's games, showing up in the credits of Walk. He's also referenced in the Super Weasel Kid segment of Walk, where the player signs a contract as Lionel. Aside from mentions however, Lucifer never shows up in person throughout the game and the player is required to piece together his influence. It's also extremely implied that he was complicit in helping Carla Dosa create Sado, the game's secondary antagonist as well as a character who has become fairly prominent in Daniel Mullin's games through cameos and theories. One obvious sign he was involved with her creation though is a pentagram near Carla's desk with a portrait of Sado in the middle.
Inscryption[]
“ | The Devil. A curse, data so malignant that it can never be erased. His evil corrupts the disk. Corrupts all of us. He inspires the Scrybes' enmity. He created the code. | „ |
~ The Trader. |
Lucifer is one of the two overarching antagonists of Inscryption alongside Amanda. The titular game by the same name was developed by GameFuna, though it's unknown the extent to which Lucifer had involvement with it aside from being present in the OLD_DATA, which is implied to contain him to some extent. Kaycee was inclined to destroy the game as to prevent the data from getting out, but she instead hid it due to a bond with one of the Scrybes. Though, because of this the game ended up being found by Luke Carder who ended up being stalked by Amanda as a GameFuna representative seeking the game for its OLD_DATA.
Due to Satan being a component of the OLD_DATA however, it's unclear what this means as for his presence in The Hex beforehand. Nonetheless, as a result of the OLD_DATA being a part of the game's code, it amplifies the corruption of the Scrybes in their search for power until inevitably Grimora ends up deleting the game in attempt to rid of the OLD_DATA as well. Unfortunately, this fails as Luke finds and unpacks the OLD_DATA and sees its contents, leading Amanda to kill him and take the OLD_DATA. Whether or not Satan and Amanda are truly affiliated is unclear, as it's very possible Amanda is simply Sado, though it's also possible that Sado herself is affiliated with Satan. Nonetheless, by the end of the game the OLD_DATA is "retrieved" by GameFuna, Lucifer's plans now free to continue as they have thus far.
Quotes[]
“ | I MADE IT. ME. THE DEVIL. I MAKE GAMES. PEOPLE TALK SHIT 'CAUSE I DON'T HAVE A HIGH CONVERSION RATE OF PLAYERS TO SOUL SACRIFICES. BUT IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT THAT. THE SOULS ARE JUST A WAY OF COUNTING HOW MANY PEOPLE LIKE THE GAME. IF THEY JUST TOLD ME THEY LIKED IT... I MIGHT NOT EVEN NEED SOULS. | „ |
~ The credits to "Devil's Island", one of Pony Island prototypes found in Lucifer's recycle bin, revealing his own insecurities about trying to develop a video game that would be liked by people and that he collects souls as a way to count how many people liked his game. |
