Lucifer is the powerful fallen archangel who is the ruler of Hell, and the overarching antagonist in The Prophecy film series.
He was portrayed by Viggo Mortensen, who also played Tex Sawyer in Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Chester MacFarland in The Two Faces of January, and John James Urgayle in G.I. Jane, in the first Prophecy film and John Light in both The Prophecy: Uprising and The Prophecy: Forsaken.

Background[]
Lucifer was the first angel created by God, His most beloved and exalted angel. Angered by God's favoring of humans over angels, he led a rebellion in Heaven and stood against the Archangel Michael's forces. They were defeated and cast into a lake of fire. Lucifer and his angels remained defiant, and the war between Heaven and Hell remains in stalemate for thousands of years, allowing Lucifer to take possession of the souls that are locked out of Paradise.
The Prophecy[]
Lucifer finds out about the fallen archangel Gabriel's plan to use the most evil human soul in the world, which is trapped inside a little girl, to overthrow God and His obedient angels and take control of Heaven. He resolves to stop Gabriel; he knows that Gabriel will just turn Heaven into another Hell, and he does not want the competition. He confronts the protagonists, Thomas Daggett and Katharine, and tells them to defeat Gabriel by using his lack of faith against him.
Lucifer appears again as Gabriel prepares to exorcise the evil soul from the girl. He tells Gabriel that his war is based on arrogance, which is evil - thus, Gabriel is intruding on his "territory". He then tells Gabriel that it is time to go home and rips his heart out. He asks Thomas and Katherine to come with him, but they refuse. Lucifer then drags Gabriel's body to Hell.
The Prophecy II[]
Some years later, Lucifer releases Gabriel from the dark confines of Hell due to the prophecy that a new child born of the angel Danyeal and the mortal woman Valerie would one day end the war between the angels. His last words to Gabriel upon the fallen angel's release are, "And Hell isn't big enough for the two of us."
