Lucy Lane is a supporting character in the WB/CW Television series Smallville.

She is the younger sister of Lois Lane, and a con artist who involves her own sister in one of her scams. She appeared as the secondary antagonist in the Season Four episode "Lucy".

She was portrayed by Peyton List, who also played Ivy Pepper in Gotham, Golden Glider in The Flash and Narissa Rizzo in Star Trek: Picard.

Biography[]

Early life[]

After her mother died, Lucy was shipped off to boarding school in Switzerland by her father General Sam Lane while her sister, Lois, stayed with him as he moved between military bases. While overseas, Lucy met a Swiss criminal loan shark named Marcus Becker and borrowed $50,000 from him.

Season Four[]

Lucy went skiing down a mountain when she was chased by Marcus and an associate. Having ran into trouble due to her financial situation, Lucy came to Smallville under the pretense of wanting to see her sister. Lucy arrived at the Kent Farm and was welcomed to stay for a few days. She got along with Clark Kent since she was constantly flirting with him.

While at the Talon, Clark noticed Marcus staring intently at Lucy. Clark asked Lucy who he was, but when she turned to see, he's gone. Later that night, Lucy slipped out of the house and went back to the Talon to steal money from the cash register but was caught by Clark who followed her there. When he questions her, Lucy confesses that she got in with the wrong crowd, ran up her credit cards, and owes a loan shark in Europe fifty thousand dollars.

Secretly, Lucy conspired with Becker to extort money from Lex Luthor. Clark and Chloe Sullivan investigated and discovered the loan shark's identity and reported it to Lois. Lois and Clark went to the Luthor Mansion where Lucy was demonstrating her violin skills for Lex. Lucy was angry at Clark for telling her business and insists that she could handle the situation herself. She and Lois argued about Lucy's actions until Lex defuses the situation and got between the sisters.

Clark explained the truth and Lex agreed to help Lucy with the money, but only because Marcus Becker was one of Lex's old business adversaries. Lucy insisted that she handled the money alone, but Lex accompanied her and Lois to an abandoned warehouse. But while exchanging the money, Becker pistol-whipped Lex and kidnapped Lois and Lucy as well, holding them hostage in the back of an 18-wheeler. However, Lois and Clark realized at the same time that Lucy was using all of them.

Unknown to everyone, Clark intercepted the truck and was able to use his powers to incapacitate and apprehend Becker. Lex attempts to have Lucy turned over to authorities, but she escaped in his car. In the confusion, Lucy apologized to Lois, got away with Lex's money and car and went into hiding.

Season Ten[]

Lucy and General Lane came to visit Lois and Clark at the Kent Farm for Thanksgiving. However, Lucy wanted to test Clark's loyalty to Lois and kissed him in time to be caught by her sister, intending to cause tension between the couple. Lois was not amused and knew perfectly well that Lucy had instigated this.

Lucy, in the hopes of winning favor with her father, agreed to help a disguised Rick Flag expose Clark as an ally with the vigilantes. Flag gave her an envelope of photos, which showed Clark's meeting with Kara, and also planted a homing device on Sam, supposedly to keep him safe. In truth however, Rick Flag, wanting the Vigilante Registration Act to fail, had planted the photos to turn the General against Clark, and to draw him away from the Kent Farm, so as to kill him.

At the Talon apartment, Lois pleaded with the General to accept her relationship with Clark, to which both the General and Lucy attempted to claim their actions were solely out of their desire to protect her. Lois refused this, and tearfully told them that if they loved her, they would respect her choice to be with Clark.

Realizing that Lois was right, Lucy and the General departed, moments before a missile aimed for the General nearly killed Lois. The Talon was destroyed, but The Blur managed to rescue Lois, gaining the respect of both Lucy and the General. At the Kent Farm, Lucy came to admit that she didn't mean to hurt her sister. Although Lois didn't fully trust Lucy, she seemed to accept her sister's apology and the two finally began coming to terms with their issues.
