Ludwig von Aegir, also known as Duke Aegir, is a major antagonist within the Fódlan Saga of Nintendo's Fire Emblem franchise.
Ludwig is the Prime Minister of the Adrestian Empire, the head of House Aegir, and the father and archenemy of his heir Ferdinand von Aegir. Highly ambitious, power-hungry and and corrupt, Ludwig was ultimately one of the main conspirators behind the Insurrection of the Seven and having Edelgard and her siblings subjected to Crest Experiments, ultimately causing her ascent on being a ruthless extremist.
In Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, he serves as a major antagonist of the Scarlet Blaze route and one of the secondary antagonists of the Azure Gleam route, where with the help of Thales, he usurps rule of Adrestria and becomes a brutal tyrant.
Ludwig is voiced by Doug Stone in English (who also voiced Psycho Mantis in the Metal Gear franchise), and Daisuke Endo in Japanese.
Appearance[]
Ludwig is a middle-aged man with orange eyes, orange, balding hair and mustache, and black clothing with red highlights.
Biography[]
Before the events of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, an event occurs in the Adrestian Empire called the Insurrection of the Seven occurs, where a group of Adrestian nobles strip Emperor Ionius IX of his power, with this event being orchestrated by Ludwig to put Ionius out of commission. After this event, Ludwig, along with Lord Arundel, would have more power over the emperor. Because of this, it lead Those Who Slither in the Dark to infiltrate the empire and take all of Emperor Ionius' children to perform experiments on all of them, with only Edelgard surviving with her life and mind intact.
When Edelgard became the next emperor of the Adrestian Empire, her first thing to do is to strip Ludwig of his title of prime minister, putting him out of power and place him under house arrest. This lasted throughout most of the war until his escape, where he would find himself within Hyrm's territory, where he was berated for his failures and attacked. When word get out that Ludwig was spotted at Hyrm, his son, Ferdinand, would immediately come to his aid, along with Byleth and Lysithea. Unfortunately for him, hew was too late, as Ludwig was murdered by the people of Hyrm.
In a alternate timeline, after saving the real Monica from Kronya and routing Solon out of the monastery, Edelgard decided to change her plans and turn on Those Who Slither in the Dark, exposing Lord Arundel being part of them to Rhea. With the combines forces of Edelgard's and the Knight of Seiros, they face off against Arundel' forces in the palace of Enbarr, with Ludwig defending it. When Edelgard confronts Ludwig in the throne room, he immediately flees and closes it off, escaping to the gardens before being fought, defeated, and captured.
On Scarlet Blaze he escapes during the suprise attack in the capital launched by Church of Seiros. He joins forces with Those Who Slither in The Dark, Viscounts Fenja and Menja and thieves led by Pallardó Davino and Metodey. While the Imperial Army was supressing the riots caused by thieves and Solon, Ludwig along with Kronya and Viscounts Fenja and Menja took over Fort Merceus with the intent of marching on the imperial capital however he is defeated and executed by his son, Ferdinand.
On Azure Gleam the mind-controlled Edelgard installed Ludwig as the new regent, resulting in him becoming the de facto ruler. During the clash with Kingdom forces in Aillel he manages to escape but is soon killed in the following battle.
