“ | Where do you want to begin? The start? A lonely youth, my gradual path to becoming an only child? That’s the thing, you see, about a family faith. You’ve got to double down on the believers. | „ |
~ Peter Lukas on his family. |
The Lukas Family are the main antagonists of season 4 of the Rusty Quill horror podcast The Magnus Archives.
They were a wealthy British family who, in the late 1800s, discovered the godlike entity known as the Lonely, and began to worship it. Throughout generations, they passed down the concept of isolation to their children, creating a dynasty of people dedicated to keeping human beings alone. Working with other Dread Powers who shared similar interest, the Lukas' funded several campaigns they believed would result in people feeling alone and unloved, in the interest of pleasing their god.
History[]
The Lukases are an old family, dating back to before the 1800s. Sometime in the late 19th century, Mordechai Lukas, the patriarch of the family, met with architect Robert Smirke, who told him of the existence of the Dread Power: godlike entities that embodied human fears existing outside of reality. Mordechai quickly fell to the Lonely, the entity embodying the fear of isolation, and converted his family to join his new religion.
As generations passed, the Lukas children spent their childhoods alone in the Lukas estate, being prevented from making friends and rarely interacting with their family or servants. Any Lukas child that was too social was sent to live with distant relatives or killed.
The Lukas family funded projects they believed worked in their benefit, including the Magnus Institute, and paranormal investigative agency controlled by the Eye. They also bought Solus Shipping PLC, which they used to get a crew for the Tundra, a ship owned by Peter Lukas. Peter and Nathaniel Lukas also helped fund the Daedalus, a space station put up by Maxwell Rayner, which Conrad Lukas used to torment astronaut Carter Chilcott with isolation.
In the early 2000s, the Lukas Family had one of their sons, Evan Lukas, killed, since he was getting married and hurting the family reputation. Shortly thereafter, Peter Lukas attempted and failed to take over the Magnus Institute, leading to his death and the apocalyptic event known as the Change. It is unknown how the family faired after the Change.
