“ | "In my life, I have identified four components, which I call tempers, from which are derived every human soul. Woe. Frolic. Dread. Malice. Each man's character is defined by the precise ratio that resides in him. I walked into the cave of my own mind, and there I tamed them. Should you tame the tempers as I did mine, then the world shall become but your appendage. It is this great and consecrated power that I hope to pass on to all of you, my children." | „ |

Lumon Industries are the main antagonists of the 2022 thriller series Severance. They are a fictional biotechnology company located within the city of Kier, Pennsylvania, and employs nearly half the city. The current CEO is Jame Eagan. They were founded within Salt's Neck, Pennsylvania.
Story[]
Founded in 1865 by Kier Eagan and subsequently managed by generations of the Eagan family, Lumon has evolved from a small business specializing in topical salves to a major producer of pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical equipment, cosmetics, personal care products, and more.
Lumon is renowned for pioneering the severance procedure, which splits a person's consciousness and memory. When severed, individuals have no recollection or knowledge of their workplace when outside the office and no memory of the outside world while at work. This effectively forces the "Innies" to exist perpetually at work, unable to leave unless their "Outie" decides to resign.
To keep them satisfied (and possibly for other, unclear reasons) Lumon promotes an internal cult among the Innies, promoting the values of Kier Eagan religiously. Innie dissatisfaction is dealt with through psychological abuse and brainwashing in the "Break Room" until they mentally submit.
Within Season 2 Episode 8 "Sweet Vitriol", of the show it is revealed that Salt's Neck, the town that Lumon was founded in was once a prosperous town before Lumon closed the factory that provided the town with much of it's economy. As a result, the residents were left abandoned without help and many found themselves addicted to the "ether" drug, which is heavily implied to also be developed by Lumon. In Season 2 Episode 10, it is revealed that the Macrodata refinement department's responsibilty is mainly to refine tempers for unknown people. A new department is also introduced within this episode. this being the Choreography and Merriment department. Their purpose is mainly to applaud employees within departments for achieving massive successes to the company through a marching band, dancing and music.
