O, Father ...at last...we are together...
~ Lyblac to Galdera.

Lyblac is the main antagonist of the videogame Octopath Traveler. She's responsible for manipulating most of the current events in the story for the sole purpose of releasing her father, the fallen god Galdera, from his prison in the Gate of Finis.

Biography[]

As a demi-goddess witch and daughter of Galdera, Lyblac has been trying to free him from his prison for at least more than a century, after he was locked up by the other gods of Orsterra.

One-hundred and fifteen years before the game events, Lyblac found a young priest named Mattias, who had lost his faith after countless lives of his hometown were lost in a wildfire without any of the gods doing anything to save them. Lyblac bestowed Mattias one hundred years free of aging so he could start his own cult of followers to Galdera, which would weaken the Sacred Flame that powered Galdera's seal and allowing some of the fallen god's power to exit the Gate of Finis, making him stronger over the years. By the same time, she also gave the same gift to a wandering prince called Simeon, so he could set up a private group of assassins known as the Obsidians to assist Lyblac in her goal.

Twenty-four years before the game events, Lybac employed a mercenary called Werner to destroy the Kingdom of Hornburg, where the Gate of Finis was located.

Fifteen years before the game events, she maneuvered with Lucia to install Yvon as the Headmaster of the Atlasdam Royal Academy by having the former headmaster assassinated. Five years later, the lord of Noblecourt, Geoffrey Azelhart, discovered the Gate of Finis, so Lyblac had the Obsidians assassinate him to keep her plans secret.

Eight years before the game events, Werner succeeded in his coup against the king of Hornburg, which ended with the king's death. This allowed Lyblac to finally gain access to the Gate of Finis, but to open it she would need three relics known as the Dragonstones, which were in possession of House Ravus. Fortunately for her, the house was in the middle of internal strife, so she managed to steal the Dragonstones and unlock the gate with them. After unlocking it, she discarded the stones.

With the pieces in place to conduct the ritual to awaken the dark god, she turned her attention to the descendants of Odin Crossford, the sorcerer who created the Dragonstones, who also had Galdera's blood in his veins. Their bloodline made them possible vessels for Galdera, so Lyblac went in search for his current living descendant, an apothecary known as Graham Crossford. Crossford's wife had died two years prior, so Lyblac tempted him with the promise to resurrect her.

Upon arriving at the Gate of Finis, Lyblac attempted a ritual to convert Graham Crossford into a vessel for Galdera. However, Graham resisted partway through and escaped. However, the incomplete ritual turned him into a monstrous abomination that would be known as Redeye.

During the game's current events, Lyblac is looking for Graham's son, Kit, to finally complete the ritual. She has the Obsidians steal Graham's journal from a young merchant called Tressa in hopes it may have a clue to his whereabouts, which ends up not having any useful information to her. She also gets the attention of a mercenary called Alphas, who is smitten with her, although she ignores him. Once the player help Alphas find his true love, Lyblac comments she's very close to find the one she's looking for.

Lyblac eventually finds Kit and lures him to the Gate of Finis, claiming that his father awaited him on the other side. The eight travelers chase after them, but by the time they catch up to them, Lyblac reveals her plan to them and reveals she's planning to have them as the first people her father devours once freed, so that the strength of their souls will feed his power. That said, Lyblac calls out to Galdera and awakens him.

Galdera's first action is to absorb Lyblac into himself, fulfilling her wish to be united with her father. She then fights the travelers as one of Galdera's body parts, but is eventually defeated and sealed up alongside her father.
