“ | Yes... But... Princess Minerva has already breathed her last... She cannot be saved... | „ |
~ Lykke to Michalis. |
Lykke (リュッケ Rucke) is a minor antagonist in Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem and Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem. Initially a general of Macedon, he was among those exiled by Princess Minerva for his oppressive actions against the populace following the War of Shadows. In retaliation, he led his fellow officers in a coup d'état against her.
Appearance[]
Lykke is a middle-aged man with a square head, short brown hair in a widow's peak, large sideburns, and a bushy mustache. He wears an ornate black coat with red patterns and gold trim over his armor. In Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, Lykke's appearance is identical to that of his fellow Macedonian general Merach.
In Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, Lykke was redesigned with a rounder head and a full beard, as well as what appear to be burn scars on his cheeks and the sides of his forehead.
Personality[]
As a high-ranking general, Lykke possessed considerable influence among the Macedonian army. However, he was among those who lorded his status over the common folk of Macedon, contributing to their suffering in the aftermath of the War of Shadows. As such, He detested Princess Minerva and her plans to reform Macedon's military in ways he believed would weaken its power, and by extension, his own. Lykke also has a cowardly streak and is prone to manipulation, demonstrated when the former King Michalis easily intimidated him into handing Minerva over to him.
Biography[]
When Macedon's King Osmond was assassinated by his ambitious son Michalis, Lykke was firmly established as a powerful general in their army. Lykke thrived during the War of Shadows, as under Michalis' orders, Macedon allied with the tyrannical Dolhr Empire and assisted with it's subjugation of the Archanean continent. However, Michalis' sister Princess Minerva was strongly opposed to this alliance; to ensure her compliance, Michalis held their youngest sister Maria hostage in Dolhr's Castle Deil. However, this contributed to his undoing, as Minerva and her Whitewinged Order agreed to side with Prince Marth and his Archanea League if Marth successfully freed Maria. When the League stormed the Macedon Aerie, Michalis personally commanded an army of dracoknights to do battle, but was struck down by Minerva. With the king's presumed death, Minerva was crowned the new of Macedon after the War of Shadow's conclusion.
One of Minerva first actions as ruler was to disband Macedon's military, believing it was in need of reform. She also ordered the exile of several generals who lorded their status over the peasantry, contributing to their suffering when the country was destitute. Lykke was one such general, and was furious over Minerva's decision. With some encouragement from Emperor Hardin, he mobilized his fellow dissatisfied exiles and stormed the Aerie, gravely wounding and imprisoning Minerva in the process. However, Lykke was nothing more than a pawn in Hardin's scheme to instigate a war with Altea. Having asked Prince Marth to stop an uprising in Grust, Hardin then requested that he stop Macedon's coup and rescue Minerva. Lykke's troubles were further compounded by the arrival of Michalis, who was secretly rescued and cared for by Maria. Wishing to atone for his familial crimes, Michalis demanded Lykke hand over Minerva, which the usurper meekly complied to. Michalis took Minerva to Khadein. General Lykke than faced Marth's army and was slain, complimenting his opponents on their skill as he died..
