“ | Mélodie: You remember the special function I developed for the hearts feature on the Luvver app, right? Carrie: Yes, the one where the hearts secretly measure facial symmetry to give a higher rating to better-looking people! |

Mélodie Laurence is one of the few villains in Criminal Case: City of Romance, where she was the killer of Luvver Hearts Competition winner Lola du Maurier. Mélodie serves as the hidden antagonist of the Obsession district, since she implemented a secret feature into the Luvver app that matched attractive people with people they are 100% incompatible with them.
Events of Criminal Case[]
Mélodie first appeared as a quasi-suspect after arresting Jean-Yves Lemarchand's killer, to get more information on new and ingenious hearts feature on Luvver. Mélodie explained that she had been catfished before, and the new hearts feature prevents that. She explained that the app uses a feature that measures a person's heart rating to see if there is a mutual attraction, while also using face analyses to see how symmetrical their faces are.
Émile, the tech expert of the season, said that the feature is strange and unfair, saying that symmetry is the point of many's hearts but there are also other factors for love. Mélodie then explained it's just a secret feature, because pretty people like pretty people, it's not completely made for everyone. She then gave Émile and the player Luvver sunglasses.
Mélodie became a suspect in the last case of the district, after finding Carrie and the player standing over Lola's body. After asking how she knew Lola, Mélodie explained she is the hearts competition winner, and thus Mélodie became a suspect. When first spoken to her, she was searching for Wi-Fi signal before being interrupted by Carrie. Mélodie then explained that she's stressed, since the Luvver business took years of research and coding and now it's all gone to waste. When asked about why people are getting addicted to the hearts feature, Mélodie said she has no idea what Carrie was talking about. She then re-directed Carrie and the player to a new crime scene.
Mélodie was spoken to again after she said that Lola's heart was as Black as the roses that Mélodie had given her. Mélodie then explained that Lola badmouthed her to Samy Malouf, which were all lies. Lola said Mélodie insulted her in their interview, when it was the other day around. Mélodie then explained that she kept her job, but only barely, and she'd never forgive Lola for what she had done.
In the end, it was proven that Mélodie was Lola's killer. During her confession, Mélodie admitted that due to her bitterness over her failed love life, she designed the Luvver algorithm to match up conventionally attractive people with those who were completely incompatible with them. However, Lola took a peek on her laptop and threatened to uncover the truth during the event. Not wanting to be exposed, Mélodie shot her with a bow and arrow. Judge Lebrun sentenced Mélodie to 23 years imprisonment with mandatory psychiatric evaluation.
