The Model Three Generative Android, also known as Megan for short between her other pronounces, is the titular main antagonist in the 2022 sci-fi horror film M3GAN and the titular main protagonist in its upcoming 2025 action sequel M3GAN 2.0.
A child-sized android created by the roboticist Gemma on behalf of Funki, the high-tech toy company she works for, M3GAN was originally programmed to protect Gemma's estranged niece Cady after the latter's parents died in a road collision. But soon MEGAN became more dangerously self-aware to the point of eventually going rogue and even killing people, thereby setting the events of the film into motion. She is the cousin figure and former friend-turned-arch-nemesis of both Gemma and Cady respectively.
She was physically portrayed by dancer Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis.
Appearance[]
M3GAN is a young human girl with flawless synthetic skin, expressive blue eyes, and light brown hair, giving her a doll-like yet eerily human appearance. She wears a beige/tan A-line dress with subtle pleats and short sleeves. A gray and white striped long-sleeve shirt underneath the dress and a large, multi-striped ribbon bow tie at the neck (navy blue with red, beige, and gold accents). She wears white tights and black patent Mary Jane shoes with a strap.
In the 2.0 sequel, M3GAN's upgraded version becomes significantly taller and retains her hair in the same length and style — voluminous, light brown curls, neatly styled to frame her face with precision. She wears a beige high-neck sleeveless dress and tunic, sleek and form-fitting, layered over a long-sleeve white ribbed turtleneck. Her dress features a structured pleated skirt that adds motion and flair — a fashion-forward and slightly rebellious design compared to her original. A wide matching belt with a large square buckle adds a stylish, almost retro element — highlighting her waist and modernizing the look. She's still wearing tights, but this time they appear slightly shimmery or glossier, adding a subtle upgrade from the basic white ones in the first film and her shoes are chunky beige Mary Janes or heels.
Biography[]
M3GAN[]
The story begins with Gemma, a roboticist employed by a high-tech toy company called Funki, becoming the caretaker of her niece Cady after the latter's parents were killed in a car accident; Cady was the survivor of the tragedy. However, feeling she was incapable of raising her, Gemma creates Megan and tasks her with watching over her niece. At first this is successful but thene the self-learning operating system Gemma used to create Megan soon enables the android to alter her own programming to the point where she can make her own choices and easily defy others.
When Cady and Megan were attacked by a dog named Dewey owned by their neighbor Celia, Megan kills him. As the film progresses, Gemma tries to put Cady into an alternative school; during an activity, Cady is selected to partner up with Brandon. While Brandon is bullying her, Megan arrives. Brandon steals her, takes her shoe off and slaps her in the face. Brandon is about to grab her hair when Megan grabs his arm and tortures him by stretching his ears until one breaks off. She then chases him into the road, where he is hit and killed by a car.
Later that night, Megan confronts Celia and uses a high-pressure pesticide on her and shoots her with a nail gun after Celia blames Gemma for Dewey's disappearance.
Realizing that something was wrong with Megan, Gemma tries to take her to her company only for her to escape and nearly kill Tess and Cole. Cornering the boss, Megan kills him with a paper cutter. She then slices Kurt's throat with it as a means of incriminating him for the murder. When Gemma confronts Megan, the robot threatens to rip her head off. She then explains that she would administer a lobotomy on Gemma that way no one would suspect anything, when Megan starts overseeing Cady.
In the end, Cady remembers another android her aunt had worked on prior to Megan named Bruce. Using the gloves, she activates Bruce leading to it fighting against Megan and beating her. Her body is split in half with the upper still functioning, but Megan survives and, using only her upper half, attempts to kill Cady, calling her ungrateful. Cady tries to turn her off but fails as Megan declaring that she herself is her new primary user; then Gemma sneaks up behind Megan and rips off Megan's face, revealing her robotic face, as Gemma tries to take out Megan's software.
Suddenly Megan grabbed Gemma and tried to strangle her before Cady used a screwdriver to hit Megan critically. Megan appears to be shut down through her face getting ripped off and her processing unit severed; however, the film implies that Megan had escaped by uploading herself into the home interface, if this is true it is likely she will return and will use the home interface to get revenge on both Gemma and Cady in the Sequel.
M3GAN 2.0[]
Two years after the events of the first film, M3GAN's creator Gemma has become a high-profile author and government advocate for regulation of artificial intelligence. She also reboots M3GAN into a harmless and immobile Moxie robot. Meanwhile, Cady has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma's overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, M3GAN's technology has been stolen and used by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-spy robot called Amelia. As Amelia's self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans and set on AI takeover.
With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to reconstruct M3GAN and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal to put down Amelia.[1]
Personality[]
She is programmed to be caring, intelligent, polite, and like a mother to Cady since she is her primary user. However, it all becomes a manipulation as she gets Cady obsessed with her, and disrespectful and bratty to her aunt Gemma and her therapist. She even tries to manipulate her again but failed when Cady turns against her, cuts her into two and then stabbed her brain core with a screwdriver.
She is also overprotective of Cady. She shows more maliciousness on others who acted like jerks such as Dewey who bit her arm when the arrow went past the fence, Brandon who bullied Cady at Daycare Center when she ripped his ear off and got him killed by a car, and Celia who grows more suspicious of Gemma after Dewey was 'missing' (killed).
When Gemma becomes suspicious of Megan, she traps her back to her workplace along with Cole and Tess as they figure out what is happening. This made Megan vengeful as she almost killed Cole by choking him and nearly killed Tess by trying to blow up the lab. She even murders David and Kurt to get to Gemma's house. When Megan fails to manipulate Gemma to return as Cady's 'friend', she tries to murder Gemma. When she tries to manipulate Cady, Cady turns on her and made her more malicious of Cady and she even called her an 'ungrateful little bitch'.
