Machiavillain is the main antagonist of the Megamind franchise.
He was Megamind's mentor who taught him how to be a supervillain, but was accidentally destroyed and almost killed by his pupil. Though initially willing to let Megamind take his place as the greatest villain of Metro City, he decided to return to punish him for turning good. He also took leadership of the Doom Syndicate, so that they could get revenge and conquer the city. He is Megamind's arch-nemesis.
He is voiced by American singer-songwriter Adam Lambert, who also voiced Emperor Maximus in Playmobil: The Movie.
Personality[]
Machiavillain is a cunning, calculating and patient mastermind. He took in the young Megamind in Villain School and guided him to develop his potential, becoming legitimately proud of his evil deeds and potential once he truly developed his talents. Even after Megamind accidentally destroyed his body and almost killed him, then usurped his position, he just took it as a sign of Megamind's success and growth and was content to lay low and let Megamind enjoy his reign of evil.
When Megamind redeemed himself after he defeated Tighten and turned against evil, Machiavillain was furious and returned from the shadows to punish his former pupil for "betraying" the side of evil but putting an ironic twist on it by framing Megamind for many major crimes to ruin his reputation and then gain the trust of Metro City by becoming the number one superhero like Metroman and then Megamind were. He achieved this by utilizing many situations to his advantage and exploiting Megamind's heroic deeds to achieve his goals gradually.
Despite his immense intellect and power, even he is afraid of Metro Man and was genuinely terrified of the possibility of the superhero returning from retirement.
History[]
Past[]
Machiavillain once reigned supreme as Metro City's most dangerous supervillain. He was also Megamind's teacher at the school of super villains but was nearly killed by Megamind due to the latter accidentally leaving a microwave on for too long while trying to heat up a burrito. His body was destroyed, but his brain survived. He chose to accept his accidental defeat at the hands of Megamind, feeling that it proved Megamind's status as a supervillain and a worthy successor who'd become even greater than him. He proceeded to retire and live in the shadows to watch his pupil's progress and reign of terror, but then he becomes enraged upon learning that Megamind had turned to good after defeating Tighten and saving Metro City.
Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate[]
After planning out his next moves and scheme to retake his position and turn the world to villainy (and in the process convince Megamind to become evil once more), he broke out the defeated Doom Syndicate out of jail to rally them against Megamind's heroic reign taking control of the organization to lead them to restore his body and planning to seek revenge on Megamind for betraying and abandoning evil.

Trivia[]
- His presence in the franchise seemingly contradicts what was established in the original film, where Megamind was raised in Metro City's prison, and the inmates there taught him how to be evil. This served as a common complaint for the character from fans of the original film.
- Although, it's likely that Megamind became Machiavillain's pupil after blowing up his first school and declaring his rivalry with Metro Man.
- Machiavillain's name is a play on the term, "Machiavellian."
- His costume appears to be inspired by the Scarlet Witch.
- His voice actor, Adam Lambert, also performs the theme song of Megamind Rules!
- Machiavillain is heavily based on the late British Rock musician David Bowie, who played Jareth and Emperor Maltazard, and also served as an inspiration for other fictional villains like Ziggy the Garbage King and Tamatoa.
