~ Zordon introducing the Machine Empire. |
The Machine Empire are an intergalactic empire of robots that serve as the main antagonists of Power Rangers Zeo as well as supporting antagonists in Power Rangers In Space.
History
Past
Where the Machine Empire came from and who built them is unknown but they swelled in numbers and forces; building specialist war fighters dubbed Quadrafighters. Under the leadership of thier ruler King Mondo, thier seemingly unstoppable firepower managed to conquer multiple planets. They grew so powerful that even Rita Repulsa and Zedd grew to fear them; both openly showing fear when they learned of the Empire's arrival on Earth. During this time, Mondo and Queen Machina built two sons; Prince Sprocket and Prince Gasket as the heirs to thier thrones in the future. However, Gasket fell in love with Archerina; the daughter of Mondo's nemesis King Aradon. As a result, the two went into hiding due to thier taboo relationship much to Machina's sadness as Gasket was her favourite son and Mondo's chagrin. Out of spite, he made Sprocket his heir apparent much to the prince's joy. The Machine Empire eventually became masters at mass production, building massive facilities on various planets in a very short period of time and being able to produce one Cog an hour.
At several unknown points, the Machine Empire employed the intergalactic bounty hunters known as the Varox but never encountered a member named Borax. During their many conquests, the Machine Empire also never encountered the Hydro Contaminators since they were located on Aquitar which was the home of the Aquitarian Rangers. An unknown amount of time later, the Machine Empire was forcibly annexed into the United Alliance of Evil because the feared Dark Specter but were allowed to continue thier conquests to gain both experience and greater resources to benefit Dark Specter. With the larger organisation's support, they swelled in power and became extremely dangerous; being described as Zordon as "the one force that could prove to be unstoppable."
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
By 1996, the Machine Empire has conquered multiple planets and decide to set thier sights on the Milky Way Galaxy. Learning of Rita and Zedd's repeated failures to conquer the Earth, the Machine Empire decide to show up thier rivals. After Master Vile leaves the Earth in disgrace, the Machine Empire defect from the United Alliance of Evil to reach the planet. Due to thier loyalty to him, Dark Specter does not attempt to interfere as thier obedience is reassured when the time comes.
Power Rangers Zeo
Immediately after the death of the Hydro Hog and the destruction of the Power Chamber, King Mondo and Queen Machina lead the Machine Empire to the Moon where they set up a Skybase on the Moon to serve as their base of operations. Although Machina is trepidatious about conflicting with Rita and Zedd, the two are forced off of the Moon by an assault from Quadrafighters. With thier main enemies gone, Mondo and Machina believe that Earth will be an easy conquest and they send Quadrafighters to test the Earth's defences. After learning that it is virtually defenceless, he orders a complete invasion; starting with a platoon of Cogs sent to attack the Angel Grove Power Plant because he wants to prove himself better than Rita and Zedd.
Although they are surprised when the Zeo Rangers defeat the Cogs, King Mondo and Queen Machina are intrigued instead pf angered since all of thier previous conquests have been boring and too easy and the Zeo Rangers actually pose a challenge. Soon after this initial attack though, Zordon begins building the Zeozords but Mondo easily discovers that they're in the Angel Grove Mountains and has Klank send a platoon of Cogs to sabotage them. When the attack is repelled by the Zeo Rangers, Klank announces that Staroid has been completed and Mondo sends the monster to defeat the Rangers only for him to be destroyed. Despite the defeat, King Mondo has the Cogs forcibly install a growth program in Klank and Orbus to enlarge his monsters starting with Silo.
After Tommy reunites with his long-lost brother David Trueheart, David bonds with his brother but mentions the power of their shared arrowhead which Sprocket overhears and reports back to his parents. Intent on harnessing the power for himself, Mondo has his Cogs kidnap David when he storms out of the Youth Center in frustration and trap the man in a cave under the local Native American reservation. With his hostage secured, he sends Mace Face to deliver his ransom demands and prove that they are being serious. Mondo personally accompanies Klank, Orbus and some Cogs to watch Mace Face defeat the Zords and order the Zeo Rangers to either give the second half of the arrowhead to King Mondo or he will destroy Angel Grove and Tommy will never see David again. After the Rangers fail to form the new Zeo MegaBattlezord due to Tommy being mentally unstable over concern for his brother, and with Mace Face returning to Angel Grove to force the issue, they are forced to surrender the arrowhead to Mondo who had watched their failure.
Instead of releasing David though, Mondo double crosses them and leaves before although the Rangers manage to form the Zeo MegaBattlezord and destroy Mace Face. After Autochthon later escapes the cave with David, Mondo sends Cogs to help and recruit ancient evil spirit. Discovering that the arrowhead has the power to let him control Autochthon and his people, Mondo places the arrowhead in a boulder which would allow him to do so but Tommy blasts him with the Red Battlezord and escapes with the arrowhead; rendering another of Mondo’s plan a complete failure.
Whilst studying for a test, Adam ends up falling asleep watching the monster movie "The Bride of Hackensack" during a full Moon and wakes up in a strange world where his other Power Rangers have became weird parodies of classic movie monsters. After he "wakes up," Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd appear to tell him that King Mondo conquered the Earth and transformed his friends so they won't be able to stop the Machine Empire from conquering the Earth whilst also telling him of how Zordonicus could stop the Machine Empire and save his friends. After the encounter with Kat, Adam appears in the laboratory (which is an altered version of the Power Chamber) but Zordonicus refuses to turn things back to normal until one of Adam's friends is chosen to fight the Drill Master. Adam accidentally chooses Tommy and Zordonicus watches hopefully only for Tommy to manage to destroy the Drill Master and a Quadrafighter. Enraged, Zordonicus reveals himself to be King Mondo and torments Adam with a group of Cogs and past monsters. However, the creature almost immediately cease to exist when Adam is abruptly woken up by Kat and Tommy as this entire experience has been a dream although the real Machine Empire and its real members do not appear.
Later, after Trey of Triforia transfers his Gold Ranger powers to Jason Scott to deny them to King Mondo, the emperor executes his ultimate plan; recreating an army of past monsters (including Silo) and upgrading them with the Neo-Plutonium Armour. The new and improved monsters are much stronger than they were before and are completely immune to the Rangers' weapons with the ultimate mission of destroying the Zeo Megazord. However, the four he sends out are destroyed by the new Super Zeozords and he is forced to scrap the rest of the now useless monsters. After, Mondo recalls the past failures of Punch-A-Bunch, Main Drain, the Drill Master, the Leaky Faucet and the Somnibot. Frustrated with his constant past defeats, and prompted by Machina's comment that they lacked his particular cunning, Mondo decides to destroy the Zeo Rangers himself so he unearths the powerful Sword of Damocles and uses it to grow to giant size. He manages to defeat Super Zeozord III and then fights the Super Zeo Megazord only to be destroyed in the battle. However, his computer brain survives and he is sent to another universe in order to be rebuilt.
In Mondo's absence, Rita and Zedd (who returned near the end of his plans) build Louie Kaboom who they intend to use to take over the Machine Empire. However, they lose his remote so he gains sentience and goes rogue; overthrowing Machina and Sprocket until Gasket and Machina return to brainwash him. After they send Louie to his death, they assume leadership and launch many schemes (including kidnapping and brainwashing Tommy into the Machine King shortly after thier arrival) but all fail. Shortly after the death of the Mechaterpillar, Mondo is rebuilt and drives out Gasket and Archerina. Immediately after, he sends the Cog Changer and forms a temporary alliance with Zedd, Rita, and their Impursonator but they soon start fighting against each other again since they both want the Gold Ranger powers. When Gasket and Archerina return to the Earth, Sprocket sees his chance to become the sole heir to the throne and tricks Gasket into growing giant to fight the Power Rangers. Although he is destroyed by the Zeo Ultrazord, Gasket and Archerina survive and try to kill Sprocket for his trick but are forced to flee by Mondo's arrival.
At the end of 1996, during the Machine Empire's last days on Earth, Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd confront Mondo and the Cogs to try and claim the Gold Ranger powers. Outnumbered, they summon the Tenga Warriors and send them to fight the Cogs but the fight ends in a draw with casualties on both sides before the Machine Empire and Evil Space Aliens retreat. Later, after Jason gives the Gold Ranger powers back to Trey, King Mondo and some giant sized Cogs arrive for a final battle so the Rangers forgo summoning the Zords in favour of enlarging themselves. King Mondo initially has the upper-hand, knocking down Tommy but his Cogs are destroyed. With the king alone, Tommy and Trey finally defeat King Mondo for good with a one-two energy punch and energy kick combination attack. King Mondo is repaired within a few days where he and the rest of the Royal House of Gadgetry meet with Zedd and Rita. However, they pretend to surrender and instead use a bomb to blow up Mondo and the others. As a result, the Machine Empire withdraw from Earth whilst the leadership are rebuilt.
Power Rangers In Space
Within two years, Mondo and Machina are rebuilt by the United Alliance of Evil and reoccupy the Machine Skybase. They soon join the meeting on the Cimmerian Planet with the Machine Empire once again back at full strength. At the end of 1998, King Mondo leads the Machine Empire and General Havoc in an attack on KO-35 and the Phantom Ranger's planet whilst Klank and Orbus look after Sprocket in the Skybase. However, Zordon's Energy Wave turns almost all of the Machine Empire into piles of dust and renders it effectively defunct. Despite this, several remnants remain though how they survived vaporisation is left ambiguous.
Forever Red
“ | Let's get started. Several years ago, the Machine Empire emerged from deep space. They tried to invade Earth. Myself and the other Zeo Rangers succeeded in stopping the invasion by destroying thier leader King Mondo and the Empire with him. But now, the last surviving members of the Machine Empire have regrouped under the command of General Venjix and are gathering here in the Sea of Tranquillity on the Moon. | „ |
~ Tommy Oliver about his past fight against the Machine Empire. |
Four years after the Machine Empire was wiped out, the remnants of the Machine Empire resurface under the leadership of General Venjix. They gather on the Moon where they uncover Lord Zedd's long abandoned Zord Serpentera so as to attack the Earth and avenge King Mondo before using it to conquer the universe and re-establish the Machine Empire in his name. However, all ten past Red Rangers show up and defeat the other generals which leaves only Venjix who enters Serpentera and prepares to begin his assault. However, Cole destroys Serpentera and Venjix along with it since he is unable to teleport out. With General Venjix's destruction, all remains of the Machine Empire and any hopes of its rebirth are gone.
