Easy, my Dear ... You have no choice now!
~ Mactans threatening Malicia to comply with her plan

Mactans is one of the secondary antagonists of the Kingdom Rush franchise, serving as one of the two main antagonists of Kingdom Rush Origins and an overarching antagonist for the rest of the series (alongside her ally Malicia).

She is one of the Ancient Spider Queens, who formed an alliance with Malicia in order to steal the Tear of Elynie from the First City of the Elves and obtain it's god-like power in order to rule the world.

Appearence[]

Mactans is a arachnid being that is several times bigger than a regular human, being far bigger than any other common spider under her command. She have eight black legs that ends in red spikes, sharp enough to pierce its prey with ease and which she uses to create webs, both to allow her troops to go faster or to summon some smaller spiders. Her big body is black with red stripes, and her face is also black with four big red eyes, two for side, which alongside her huge red fangs makes her appearence threatening to most.

After fusing with Malicia and becoming the Spider Goddess, the lower half of her body resemble a huge black spider, with purple stripes on the back and eight legs that ends with sharp violet claws. Meanwhile, her upper body is much more human-like, with the appearence of a Twilight Elf with purple armor, a scepter and a crown. Her hair are white and long while her eyes are red, just like the gem at the center of her body, which is the corrupted Tear of Elynie that the two now fused within the abomination have stolen.

Personality[]

Mactans is an extremely power-hungry individual, even more so than Malicia, ready to do anything to obtain the divine power that she desires more than anything. She is often shown to be the true brain behind the plan, saving Malicia after she is defeated the first time and pushing her to do her biddings regardless of the fact she agrees with it or not.

While Malicia seems to actually see her as a true ally, Mactans herself sees Malicia as a puppet in her schemes, threating her harshly like ordering to hush, before calling her "My Dear" to keep up appearences, and refusing to consider even for a moment the doubts that Malicia have about taking the Tear of Elynie and instead coercing her into doing it to obtain the crystal and the power within it.

She also have no problems sending her own childrens, the giant spiders, to die just so they can give her the time she needs, either by slowing the Elves down or by buying time while her and Malicia attempts to destroy the glass encasing the Tear of Elynie, showing she has no care even for her own species, apart from possibly other Spider Queens since she mentions Sarelgaz before her final fight.

Overall, Mactans is a selfish and power-hungry being, who cares about no one except for herself and for the power that she wants, being more than willing to do anything to obtain it.

Biography[]

Mactans is a Ancient Spider Queen that has been alive for many years, maybe even centuries, plotting to obtain enough power to conquer the entire world. To do so, she decides to make an alliance with Malicia, possibly even helping her to crown herself as the Queen of the Twilight Elves, so that she can have a more powerful army to destroy the Elves.

For most of the time, the Elves are under the impression that only Malicia is behind the attack to the Capital and the attempted assassination of the Princess Alleria Swiftwind. It's not until they see Mactans come into Malicia's help and bringing her away before she could be killed or captured that they understand how deep the evil they are facing goes.

After following their trail, the Elves discovers that the two of them are going towards the flying ruins of the First City, where the Tear of Elynie is kept. The two Queens sees the army, with Malicia that proclaims that she wants her revenge over them before Mactans hush her to prevent being seen.

Sending several of the troops of Malicia and of her owns, she decides to take matters on her own hands once they arrive to her lairs, starting to use her webs to block towers or to summon more troops in the hope of overwhelming the army and destroy it, so that the two of them can continue with their plans without problems.

Successfully slowing down the Elves, the two Queens reaches the Shrine of Elynie, where Mactans excitedly thinks that everything has been going according to her plans and proclaims that now is the time to grab the Tear of Elynie. When, however, Malicia shows some doubts over the plan, saying that the price might be too high, Mactan' coerce her into doing it anyway, saying that she have no choice.

When the Elves arrives to the Shrine, the two of them are already attempting to break down the glass encasing the Tear, with them gleefully saying that they will now see their goddess fall. The Elves successsfully keeping at bay the joined army of Twilight Elves and Spiders, but they are unable to stop the two of them from breaking the glass, with both of them jumping towards the Tear together to grab it for their own, fusing however in a abomination known as the Spider Goddess.

With new found powers similiar to a god, the Spider Goddess attack the Elves army, summoning armies of spiders and Twilight Elves to her support, while also using magic to block and destroy entire towers. However, after a hard fought battle, the amalgamation is finally defeated, exploding in a bright light and leaving behind only the now corrupted Tear of Elynie, ending Malicia and Mactan's plans of world domination once and for all.

Malicia and Mactan's actions however, brought dire ramifications upon the world. Vez'nan, the shady sorcerer who initially offered to dispose the tainted Tear of Elynie on his allies' behalf, ended up corrupted by it, further driving him to the path of villainy.

Trivia[]

  • Mactans' name presumably comes from the scientific name of a spider, the black widow to be specific, which is Latrodectus mactans.
