Biography
Past
Macy was a jeweler who believed he was happily married but discovered his wife had been unfaithful to him. Unhinged he killed her and set out to test other couples' love for each other as he wished someone would have tested them.
One couple failed his test and were killed as a result.
Committed
Macy targeted Chloe Sullivan and Jimmy Olsen when they entered his jewelry store and wore a mask to hide his identity. He first used his headlights to blind the couple then tranquilized them as they were leaving their engagement party.
Chloe and Jimmy regained consciousness in a dark dungeon with a masked Macy who declares that he will determine if the two lovers are truly meant to be together.
Realizing the couple never came home, Lois and Clark started to investigate Chloe and Jimmy's disappearance, and soon discover that they weren't the only couple to go missing recently. They found that all the victims were connected by the same three shops: a bakery, a jewelry store and a stationery shop.
Macy began his interrogation by tying Chloe and Jimmy to lie-detector machines and their chairs were connected to electricity. Macy tells them it's his "duty" to determine whether their love for each other is genuine, and that not everyone is meant to be married.
First he asked Jimmy if he has ever cheated on Chloe. Jimmy declares that he hasn't but the lie-detector gave a negative indication.
When Chloe is then given a shock, Jimmy quickly confesses how he kissed Maxima. Macy explained that this test was intended to show that lies do not hurt the liar but the one they lie to. Remembering the kidnapper targets couples, Lois suggests they pose as an engaged couple in the jewelry store. Macy showed Clark and Lois rings and the pretend couple tried some on.
Continuing his interrogation, Macy revealed his past as motivation for couples not to endure the hurt he's faced. He asked Chloe if she has ever cheated on Jimmy and the lie-detector showed a positive reaction.
He then asked if she is in love with anyone else, which Jimmy insists she doesn't answer.
Macy shocked him and insists Chloe answer the question, to which she calmly responds "no" and again there is a positive result, so Jimmy was not given a shock. Macy congratulates the couple then again tranquilizes them. He released them and took them back to their apartment at the Talon.
Next he kidnapped Lois while she was leaving a voicemail for Clark. After being released, Chloe and Jimmy call the sheriff and Clark arrives to tell them he can't find Lois. When they tell Clark what the kidnapper said to them, he realizes that it must have been the jeweler that kidnapped her.
Clark crashes into the basement of the store where he finds Lois restrained in a chair, and attempts to free her, but is weakened when the jeweler approaches him from behind, wearing a kryptonite watchband.
He knocks Clark unconscious. Clark wakes up in the electric chair opposite Lois, defenseless due to the kryptonite around them.
Macy tortured Lois and Clark and asked them if they truly love each other. Asking questions of if they ever cheated on each other but Lois denies it, which registers as a lie on the polygraph and so the jeweler shocks Clark.
They admit that they only pretended to be a couple, but Macy refuses to believe her and continues the test. The jeweler then asks Clark about his feelings for Lois, but, without answering, Clark pulls off the jeweler's Kryptonite watchband and throws it down a nearby drain and then head-butts him.
Next he uses his heat vision to sever the steam pipes so that Lois cannot see him free himself. Macy grabbed a wire to try to stab Clark, but Clark grabs him and knocks out the jeweler. As Clark frees Lois, they both look confused and awkward. At the Daily Planet, Lois told Clark that Macy confessed.
