| ~ The Mad Alchemist's bestiary entry. |
The Mad Alchemist, formerly known as Ruzpin, is a minor antagonist and boss in Salt and Sanctuary.
Biography[]
Ruzpin was once a wise master at the work of alchemical arts, with some calling him the Grand Ter of Alchemy and Salves. But as the decades past, his exposure to toxins both physically and spiritual paid their toll on him and he went mad. He became a murderous, mindless husk that used his alchemy for his twisted experiments.
The player encounters the Mad Alchemist in the Watching Woods, on a platform above a Sanctuary past a Bloated Monstrocity. He is resilient to striking weapons while weak to slashing weapons and elements. He will attack the player by throwing vials at them. Depending on the color of the vial thrown is based on a different attack:
- Red vials will summon flame orbs that lock in on the player's current position, and he can throw up to three at a time.
- Blue vials will summon an electric orb that flies in the air towards the player, shocking the ground.
- Green vials will summon a toxic mist that rapidly fills the poison meter if stuck in it and spawns a Poison Cytoplasm.
- Purple vials are his most dangerous type of vial, telegraphed by him jumping in the air and throwing the vial on the ground. From a black cloud comes two purple scythes that leap towards the player's direction, dealing arcane damage if struct.
As he loses health, the Mad Alchemist becomes more aggressive, jumps around faster, and will summon vials at a faster rate, with purple vials being more common. Additionally, when he summons said purple vials, he will drop three at once. The Mad Alchemist has no physical attacks, making it more necessary to acquire elemental resistent armor. He also has less health compared to other bosses fought before and after him. Once the Mad Alchemist is defeated, the Saltborn acquires one of his ears.
