Maderas is a major antagonist in the game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.
Biography[]
Past[]
Maderas was originally a vassal of King Krichevskoy who kept stealing his master's Black Pretzels, this would result in Maderas being banished from the Overlord's castle.
After King Krichevskoy had died, he would immediately act to become the next Overlord. He would start by stealing Etna's memories and holding them hostage, only agreeing to give them back if she agreed to make him the next Overlord, he would also have his Prinnies watch over Etna to make sure she doesn't betray him.
The first thing Maderas had Etna do was give Laharl a poison which was intended to kill him, however, all it did was put Laharl to sleep for two years.
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness[]
After Laharl woke up from being poisoned, Maderas would have Etna keep notes on Laharl's growing strength and how he defeated other powerful demons who were going to become the next Overlord such as Mid-Boss and Hoggmeiser.
Maderas would then have Etna take candid photos of Laharl in order to blackmail him into travelling to an isolated location where Maderas would use other demons to exploit Laharl's weaknesses to positivity and sexy women against him.
When Maderas appeared before Laharl, Etna and Flonne, he would expose that Etna had been working for him and he ordered the demons working for him to kill Etna as well, betraying her and saying that he wouldn't give his memories again.
The three managed to fight their way to Maderas who ordered Etna to kill Laharl who he would destroy her memories, however, Etna refused, not wanting to act as Maderas' pawn any longer. Maderas then ordered his Prinnies to kill Etna but she revealed that she had bought off the Prinnies years ago.
Running out of options, Maderas orders his remaining demons to battle Laharl along with him, however, they would be defeated. Maderas would start to beg for his life and Etna agreed to take him as her vassal, seeing it as the perfect punishment for him.
After this point, Maderas' role in the story stops and he just acts as a party member for gameplay.
If the player has 100 ally kills, there will be an option to have Etna kill Maderas which she does so, giving the player the Etna Heroine Ending.
Etna Mode[]
In Etna Mode, Maderas would be unaware that Laharl was dead and was informed by Etna that he had defeated Vyres and Hoggmeiser.
Maderas would eventually uncover that Etna had been lying to him and decided to travel to the location where he hide Etna's memories, expecting that Etna was going there to get the memories back. Maderas would confront Etna and would go to battle her, a fight he would have won if they had actually fought, however, Vyres intervenes, revealing that he has Demon Tome which makes whoever owns it the Overlord. Vyres then orders both Maderas and Etna to go to a set location after a few days to have a battle for the Demon Tome.
Maderas would not wait and would travel to the location to find Vyres and steal the Demon Tome from him while hiring the Dark Durian and Antoire to help him find and kill Vyres.
Before Maderas could find him, Etna would show up intending to battle Maderas. Maderas would try to threaten Etna by destroying her memories but before he could do so, Etna revealed that she bribed the Dark Durain to steal her memories back.
Maderas would try to fight against Etna and Flonne but they defeated him. Maderas started to beg for his life but he is suddenly killed by Vulcanus for failing to kill Etna and Flonne.
