Mafuga is the overarching antagonist of the anime movie Doraemon: Nobita and the Windmasters. It is an ancient dragon created by the Storm Tribe's leader Uranda long ago to conquer the world for him, but was vanquinshed by the hero Noajin. The entire movie's plot is the Storm Tribe trying to gather its pieces to resurrect it and help Uranda to conquer the world once more.
History[]
Long ago, out of desire to control the world, the Storm Tribe's leader Uranda created Mafuga which was incredibly powerful that it destroyed lands. Eventually, the hero Noajin defeated Mafuga and Uranda, separated the dragon into three eggs: The orange one (Fuuko), the blue one (Gorado), and the red one, the last of which contained Mafuga's essence. The former two were sealed with Uranda, while the third one were sealed inside Noajin's sword. Over the generations, the story of Mafuga has become a legend to the Wind Tribe.
One night, the Storm Tribe, led by Storm discovered Uranda's tomb and opened it, seeking treasures inside. However, this unleashed Uranda, who then possesses Suneo and returns to lead the tribe whilst plotting his world domination once again. To this end, he orders the tribe to gather Mafuga's pieces, including Fuuko.
Later on, at the Southern Island, Doraemon and Jaian tries to stop Uranda from finding the red eggs, but are captured instead. Uranda then escapes from Suneo's body and cites the chant to release Mafuga's spirit, allowing it to merge back with Fuuko and Gorado and reforming into the deadly dragon, ready for him to conquer the world. However by then, Storm reveals himself to be an archaeologist and wanted criminal from the 22nd century and absorbs Uranda into a 4-Dimensional Pet Bottle, before taking control of Mafuga himself.
Thanks to the Wind Tribe's help, Fuuko escapes Mafuga and destroys the dragon after a battle, sacrificing herself in the process. Storm would then be captured by the Time Patrol, leaving Uranda's goals for conquest and power in vain.
Trivia[]
- Mafuga's name means "demonic storm", fitting its nature.
- Mafuga is the third dragon of a Doraemon feature film to be used by the main villain for his own ends, following Leviathan and Phoenixia. Unlike the other two however, it never betrays the main villain in anyway (Leviathan unwittingly swallows Mr. Cash alongside Doraemon, Phoenixia knocks Commander Seagrid unconscious) and remains loyal to Uranda and Dr. Storm until the end. It's also the only one of the three to die, as Leviathan becomes a native of the sea while Phoenixia is sent back to the past.
