Magali Fernandes, also known as Maggy and Maggy Lee, is one of the main protagonists of the brazillian comic book series Monica Adventures (Turma da Mônica Jovem). She is one of the supporting antagonists/anti-heroes of the End of the World super saga.
She is a descendant of the Coven of Witches of House of Hecate and a member of the Secret Order. In Tmj #63, Maggy was possessed by the spirit of Penha, the Horseman of War. In Tmj #76, Maggy was killed by Berenice, the Horseman of Death, who corrupted her spirit and turned her into one of her soldiers. After Berenice was defeated, Maggy's spirit returned to her body. In Tmj #79, it is shown that an alternate version of Magali from a possible future went crazy after being resurrected and killed her entire coven, then isolating herself in her castle for fear of the rest of the world to steal her power. In Tmj #92, Magali had her powers removed and her memory erased by the Horseman of Pestilence, until she recovered them back in volume 2.
She was created by the author Maurício de Sousa in 1964, and was portrayed by Bianca Paiva in the 2024 live-action film.
Biography[]
Early history[]
Since childhood, Magali has always been inserted in magic-related stories. So, when she became a teenager, she was represented as a witch several times in the first editions, even before her powers manifest.
Halloween Party[]

In the Halloween issue, Maggy found a witch costume lost in a chest and decides to dress up. When the spirit of Penha began to possess the bodies of Maggy's friends, only Maggy could see her in her true form. After Penha possessed Smudge, she infiltrated Maggy's body, releasing her hair to stayed the same as hers when she was "alive". Penha eventually reveals herself when she became more strong and powerful, (supposedly thanks to Aunt Nena's medallion) and Maggy finally manages to expel her from her body and lock it. It is later revealed that the powers came from Magali itself, not from the medallion.
Children of Umbra[]

After deceiving the Gang, Berenice (The Horseman of Death) poisoned Magali, Monica and Smudge, sliding the three in the Umbra cemetery and holding their spirits in magical costumes that altered their personalities, removing their traits of humanity and empathy and making them henchmen of Horseman.
Magali's spirit was imprisoned in a witch costume with a moon head, releasing his powers.
Still, their spirits managed to have a little more personality and did not just look like manipulated dolls. So much so that they called themselves by their names. After facing Jimmy Five and the Children of Umbra, their spirits were released and Maggy managed to leave her grave along with the others, being traumatized with the event.

Eventually, the gang had to unlock Magali's powers to imprison Cumulus again, almost making her lose control.
Shadows of a Dark Future[]

In an alternate future, Magali distanced herself from the gang during the fight against the Horseman of Death and became an extremely powerful and mentally unstable witch, since her mind has not endured the expansion of conscience that her powers brought. Three witches of the House of Hecate; Viviane, Ramona and Maggy's aunt Nena tried to help her, but she killed them disintegrating instantly.
Thinking that everyone wanted to steal their power, Maggy froze the entire north of Brazil and isolated herself in her castle. Years later, Denise tried to help her, but realizing that she fled and was learning from her magic books, Maggy chased her to the battlefield during the apocalypse, being hit by her ex-boyfriend Quim; which had been transformed into a deadly cyborg. But due to her powers, Magali probably survived.
Aftermath[]

During the Battle in the Inverted Tower/Hell, Smudge released Maggy's powers again. Eventually, she erased the fragile and delicate part of her personality to help in the fight against the Mr. Samir/the Horseman of Pestilence. However, the Horseman eventually erased her memory and destroyed the cells of her brain that gave access to her power, locking them again.
In the third series, Magali relates to magic again, learning the mystical arts with Aunt Nena to become a member of the secret order, eventually using her power to save the Lemon Tree.
Powers and Abilities[]

- Magic: Magali was born with the affinity to manipulate magic, being descended from the House of Hecate. She's feared and famed as one of most powerful magic users on the planet and mortal plane.
- Elemental Control: Magali can manipulate elements such as:
- Hydrokinesis: Generate and manipulate water. Magali condensed and manipulated Cumulus's molecules when he was in his liquid form, larger than dozens of tsunamis.
- Cryokinesis: Generate and manipulate cold. Magali managed to manipulate ice into a terrestrial scale, transforming the entire north of Brazil into a glacial region.
- Pyrokinesis: Generate heat and manipulate fire.
- Electrokinesis: Magali can generate and manipulate electricity, lightning, thunder, etc.
- Geokinesis: Generate and manipulate rocks, also creating a path of floating stones.
- Aerokinesis: Magali controls the savagery of the winds, manipulating the strength and reach of the air.
- Omniscience: Magali claims to understand the entire functioning of reality and even feel each star and mind in the universe.
- Omnipotence: Magali states that she can control all functioning of reality. This happens only while her mental lock is broken.
- Sealing: Magali managed to seal the spirit of Penha, disturbing him and tying him in the emptiness.
- Disintegration: In the future, Magali can control the atoms of the bodies of Aunt Nena, Witch Viviane and Ramona, instantly disintegrating them.
- Supernatural detection: Magali felt the presence of Venerusa before her body materialized.
- Telepathy: Magali can also read minds, view and erase memories of others with or without the person's consent.
- Mind Control/Necromancy: Magali can easily control people and spirits. She manipulated her own mind to eliminate factors of her own personality. She was able to have access to the mastery of the gang spirits and managed to return their souls to their respective bodies.
- Reality Alteration: She can manipulate reality at will. Using representational magic, she managed to overthrow a tree to the break a simple twig
- Weather Manipulation: Magali can control and affects the weather in a certain area.
- Eldritch Blast: Magali can blast enemies with mystical energy. With only a blast of her power, the moon-shaped Magali spirit managed to overthrow and destabilize all the Children of Umbra together.
- Energy Construct Creation: Magali can use her magical energies to create magical constructs to suit her needs.
- Energy Transference: Magali was able to manipulate "Mr. Samir's" powers, transferring them to Smudge's body.
- Flight: Magali can fly or levitate in the air.
- Precognition: Magali could see the future of Jimmy Five the moment he arrived in Sococó da Ema.
- Retrocognition: Magali is able to visualize facts and events from the past.
- Force Field: Magali can create magical shields, protecting herself and others from the blasts of the Smudge (while he was possessed by the Horseman of Pestilence).
- Healing: With part of her power linked to the medallion, Magali managed to heal Penha's body.
- Invisibility: Magali can use existing mystical forces to become invisible as well as other people.
- Size Alteration: Magali can increase her body size on a giant scale.
- Transformation: Magali managed to manipulate the shape of her hand by sticking it into the water.
- Mediumship: Magali's mind allows her to notice the presence of spirits and ghosts nearby. Penha says that through Aunt Nena's medallion, she can possess and control people freely (although later it is revealed that the medallion has no power, only Magali). Magali managed to expel the spirit of Penha from her body without reciting any spell, just ordering her to leave.
