Erik Magnus Lehnsheer, better known as Magneto, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Apocalypse) of the 2000-2003 animated superhero television series X-Men: Evolution, which is based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the X-Men.

He is an extremely powerful and ruthless mutant with the ability to manipulate all forms of magnetism and the leader of the Acolytes, a group of mutants who wish to dominate the human race and make the mutant race the superior species so they can prevent them from hurting other mutants. He is the on-and-off arch-nemesis of Professor Charles Xavier, and the X-Men, as well as the father of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. He was eventually chosen by Apocalypse to be War, one of the Four Horsemen.

He was voiced by Christopher Judge, who's best known for voicing Kratos from the Norse Era of the God of War franchise, as well as Oreskis from Final Space and D-Mob in Def Jam Vendetta.

History[]

As a child during World War 2, Erik was imprisoned in a Nazi prison camp in Poland, until the night he was rescued by Captain America, and Logan, who years later would go to become the X-Men member, Wolverine. While they were escaping some Nazi soldiers threw some explosives at them, but Erik used his powers to deflect them away, which Logan witnessed.

Appearance[]

Magneto is a tall slightly young-looking man with a thin build, who wore a black leather clothing covered with red armor and a long-wide purple cape. Magneto also wears his classic red and purple helmet that covers his face in the shadows, but following later seasons, his face was no longer covered in the shadows.

Personality[]

Magneto is portrayed as a charismatic and strategic leader. He has a clear vision for mutant supremacy and works tirelessly to achieve it. His ability to inspire loyalty in his followers, particularly among younger mutants, demonstrates his persuasive nature and commanding presence.

While not inherently evil, he is willing to take extreme measures to achieve his goals. He often employs ruthless tactics, showing little remorse for collateral damage or harm to those who stand in his way. This pragmatism stems from his belief that the ends justify the means in the pursuit of mutant safety and dominance.

He highly intelligent and strategic in his approach. He carefully plans his moves, often thinking several steps ahead of his opponents. His intellect is not limited to tactics; he also demonstrates a deep understanding of genetics, technology, and mutant abilities. Magneto is skilled at manipulating others to serve his purposes. He's adept at identifying individuals' weaknesses and desires, using this insight to sway them to his cause.

His experiences as a Holocaust survivor deeply influence his worldview and actions. The trauma of his past fuels his determination to prevent mutants from facing similar persecution. This background adds layers of complexity to his character, making him more than just a one-dimensional villain.

Magneto's relationship with his children, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, reveals a complicated paternal side. While he cares for them, he often prioritizes his broader goals over their individual needs, leading to strained relationships. His relationship with Charles Xavier is complex. While they are often at odds, Magneto shows a degree of respect for Xavier's intellect and abilities. This respect, combined with their shared history, adds nuance to their rivalry.

He possesses a strong sense of pride in his mutant heritage and abilities. This pride sometimes borders on arrogance, causing him to underestimate his opponents or overestimate his own capabilities. Despite his extreme methods, Magneto genuinely believes he's doing what's best for mutantkind. He demonstrates remarkable adaptability in the face of setbacks. He's resilient, always finding ways to bounce back from defeats and adjust his strategies accordingly.
