Magnus is a minor antagonist of the Castlevania franchise, serving as the main antagonist of the Nocturne of Recollection audio drama. A vain, sadistic and bloodthirsty incubus, Magnus would manipulate and torment Alucard into unwillingly transforming his longtime friend Lyudmil into a vampire while relishing in the former's suffering. he would keep Lyudmil as a slave that would kill innocents to sate his sadism for centuries until the present, seeking to manipulate Alucard into kiling his loved ones and bring back Dracula once more. He is voiced by Jun'ichi Suwabe, who also voiced Omega from Mega Man Zero.
Appearance[]
Magnus takes the form of a slender, dark-brown long haired young man with pale skin, black wings, a tattoo of a butterfly in his lower abdomen, and red eyes. He describes himself as having "sharp teeth" and claws for Maria.
Personality[]
Magnus is misanthropic, sadistic and bloodthirsty. Openly admitting to Maria he sees humans as existing only to kill for his and other demons' amusement, Magnus likes manipulating them to their destruction, wanting to make Alucard kill all his loved ones. He greatly enjoyed mentally torturing Alucard about turning Lyudmil into a vampire and would make the latter kill innocents for his amusement.
Biography[]
Centuries before the beginning of the drama, Magnus would attack and mortally wound Lyudmil, giving Alucard the choice of letting him die or turn him into a vampire, yet when Alucard refused, Magnus would mentally break Alucard in turning Lyudmil into a vampire anyway, maniacally laughing and talking about his success in making Alucard succumb to his vampiric instincts.
350 years later, Magnus appears, talking about his hatred for humanity and contempt for "huma n love", attempting to manipulate Maria into turning against Alucard by implicating she could be another victim, showing her a vision of the latter attacking a girl. Later, Magnus would awake Lyudmil into attacking again before meeting Alucard, showing him visions of what happened to Lyudmil, but Alucard breaks free.
Cyril and Alexis mention that a vampire has attacked and killed young girls nearby. Magnus would kidnap Alexis and say to Cyril in a dream he would need to go to a chapel outside the town if he wanted to save Alexis. When Alucard, Maria, Richter and Cyril go to the chapel, Lyudmil reveals himself as Cyril reveals he killed his sister. After A fight, Magnus reveals he Cyril him into giving a potion that would seal Maria's powers by talking about it in his dream while laughing.
To torment Alucard further, Magnus shows him the now vampiric Lyudmil, talking about how he hates humans. Magnus attempts to mentally break Alucard again with a scene of him turning Lyudmil into a vampire while Richter and Cyril fight him. Maria tries to make Alucard return to his senses, resulting in Magnus attacking her while laughing. However, after apparently dying, a light would come out of Maria's body and she would regain control of her celestial beasts, and Lyudmil regains his composure, attacking a surprised Magnus.
However, he would fatally wound Lyudmil once more, distressing Alucard. After Alexis and Cyril warn about Magnus's attacks coming from his claws, they are broken. Alucard would pierce Magnus' body while he was taunting him, and he would attempt to take down Alucard with him as his body was burning to no avail, ending his terror.
