NOTE: This article is about the incarnation of Magus from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (2021). The mainstream incarnation of Magus can be found here: Magus (Marvel).
“
I... AM... ETERNAL!
„
~ Magus completely taking over Warlock's body and his famous quote.
“
Sooner or later everyone WILL fall before me! The entire galaxy will fall!
„
~ Magus mockingly plans to rule over everyone in the entire galaxy and his another famous quote.
He is the archenemy and evil side of Adam Warlock that was accidentally released from the Soul Gem by Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon, where he would then proceed to brainwash several innocent aliens, mainly by turning cadet Nicholette Gold into the Matriarch after killing her mother, Ko-Rel. He is also responsible for Raker's terror across the galaxy.
Magus has the same appearance as Warlock, albeit it is nothing more than a strange black and purple humanoid (after possessing Warlock) with white hair and purple eyes.
Personality[]
In almost every manner, Magus serves as Adam Warlock's antithesis, housing his dark subconscious and evil thoughts. Magus is very arrogant, believing himself to be a deity deserving of praise and devotion, and he frequently lashes out and makes attempts to kill individuals who criticise and insult him out of intense rage.
Magus is also very conceited but also highly manipulative. He used false promises of the resurrection of their loved ones to trick Raker, the entire Universal Church of Truth and later Nikki/The Matriarch into giving him a body. In a similar fashion to Thanos, Magus revels in the suffering of others and is prepared to wipe out the whole universe to demonstrate his might.
History[]
For the longest time, Magus was the imprisoned darker impulses of Adam Warlock, but when it was revealed to Raker that he was slowly corrupting Warlock, Raker removed the Soul Gem from Warlock's head and imprisoning Magus in the quarantine zone. Years later, Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon accidentally released Magus by uncovering the Soul Gem. Magus went on a killing spree, first murdering the Acanti that the Guardians were there to catch, then killing several Nova Corps agents, including Centaurion Ko-Rel.
He then brainwashed Ko-Rel's adoptive daughter, Nicholette Gold, and turned her into a divine entity known as The Matriarch. Magus was not seen again up until it is found out that he brainwashed several innocent aliens using the promise, in which he would promise the victim their deepest desires only to make them mind controlled slaves and force them to make other aliens give in.
It attempted the promise on the Guardians, but failed except for Drax, who was brainwashed by the Promise. It would then make Drax a slave up until the Guardians were able to make Drax reject his promise. It later had Nicholette Gold release it among the galaxy, where it would consume any living entity it came across. Fortunately, Warlock was able to temporarily imprison Magus once again, but he failed when it overtook him and attempted to continue its domination plan. It fought the Guardians and almost killed them until Star-Lord was able to contain it once again within the Soul Gem.
