Machina: A Main Drain monster? What a simply brilliant idea. He can drain every ounce of energy out of that loathsome Zeo Megazord! Then, when it’s nothing but a shell of its former self, he can smash it to smithereens!
Mondo: Yes! All night long, he's been draining energy from the Angel Grove Power Plant. He is fully charged and ready for battle.
Machina: So, in other words, Main Drain will plainly be the Rangers' main pain.
Mondo: Exactly right. By George, I think she’s got it!
~ The plan for Main Drain.

Main Drain is the Body Builder-themed robot of the Machine Empire serving King Mondo who served as the main antagonist of the Power Rangers Zeo episode "Inner Spirit" as well as a mentioned posthumous antagonist in the episode "Mondo's Last Stand."

He is voiced by the late Brad Orchard who previously voiced Pipebrain, the Tube Monster, Centiback, the Ravenator and the Hydro Hog in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and later voiced Mace Face and Stenchy later in Zeo and the Horror Bulls and Hoothead in Power Rangers In Space.

Biography[]

Past[]

Main Drain was manufactured by the Machine Empire, working under King Mondo and Queen Machina. With their monsters and never-ending army of Cogs, the Machine Empire was able to devastate and conquer entire galaxies. Main Drain was a dangerously powerful monster, being able to drain the energy from anything from power plants to machines using either cables or a special tail and then use it to make him almost unstoppable. Due to this ability making him undefeatable, Main Drain became a favourite of Mondo and Machina who kept him in mind for future schemes.

Zeo[]

In 1996, King Mondo leads his Machine Empire to the Moon where they drive out Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa but their invasion is ultimately stalled by the interference of the Zeo Rangers.

After the Robocupid and the Defoliator are destroyed, Main Drain is sent by King Mondo to become as powerful as possible in a plan to destroy the Zeo Megazord and make the Earth vulnerable. Having spent the night draining the Angel Grove Power Plant which causes power surges in the Youth Center and Power Chamber, he attacks the park and chases off Bulk and Skull as they attempt to sell raffle tickets to the Native American Arts Exhibit. After being met by the Zeo Rangers at the quarry, Main Drain is enlarged by Klank and Orbus and the Rangers summon the Zeo Megazord but the Zeo II Battle Helmet has no effect and he even absorbs the blasts to grow more powerful. Switching to Warrior Mode, they knock him around with the Zeo Megazord Saber but are distracted by a fake surrender from Mondo which allows Main Drain to stab a power draining cable into the Megazord and completely drain its energy. Growing far stronger, Main Drain grows more armour and decimates it with a lightning blast; shattering the Zeo Megazord Saber, crippling the Megazord and forcing them to retreat.

After Tommy and his new Red Battlezord are buried under rock when it goes out of control, Main Drain and King Mondo arrive to destroy it before it can become a threat. After seeming to destroy it with lightning, the monster is blasted by Tanya, Adam, Rocky and Kat's Advanced Zeo Laser Pistols so he grabs them, throws them away and hits them with his lightning. However, the fallen rocks protected the Zord from his lightning and Tommy manages to regain control over the Battlezord using his Zeonizer Crystal but only for a moment before he loses control due to concerns over his spiritual quest which allows the monster to drain its energy with his cables. However, he remembers advice from Sam Trueheart which he takes to mean that he should treat the Red Battlezord as another limb. Using this, he breaks free from Main Drain's cable and knocks him around before withstanding even his powerful lightning attack and slaying him with the Red Battlezord's gattling guns.

After Prince Sprocket complains about Punch-A-Bunch damaging himself during battle against the Zeo Rangers, Main Drain is indirectly referenced along with all previous monsters used up to that point when Machina reassures her distraught son that the Rangers have ruined all of their monsters.

Main Drain is later recalled along with Punch-A-Bunch, the Drill Master, the Leaky Faucet and the Somnibot as monsters that fought the Zeo Rangers and lost. Frustrated with his constant past defeats, and prompted by Queen Machina's comment that they lacked his particular cunning, Mondo decides to destroy the Zeo Rangers himself only to be defeated by the Super Zeo Megazord.

Main Drain is rebuilt and seen in the audience at Prince Gasket's Machine Arena when Tommy forces Jason to fight Altor. However, the Rangers are later able to escape after Tritor destroys the shield generator which renders Gasket's plan a failure. What happened to Main Drain after this is unknown as he was never seen again but it is likely that Zordon's Energy Wave vaporized him since there was nothing redeemable about him.

Personality[]

Main Drain was an extremely violent and destructive monster who proved to be extremely arrogant. He was also crafty, pretending to bow and surrender to trick the Zeo Rangers but he showed intense loyalty to King Mondo who he referred to as "Boss."

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Power: Main Drain was one of the most powerful monsters in Zeo, utterly decimating the Zeo Megazord as well as temporarily outmatching the Red Battlezord.
  • Strength: When giant, Main Drain could pick up and toss the four Rangers that shot him with ease.
  • Durability: Main Drain was unfazed by shots from the Zeo II Battle Helmet, multiple slashes from the Zeo Megazord Saber, a kick to the gut from the Red Battlezord and a punch to the head from the Red Battlezord.
    • Armour: After achieving his ultimate form, Main Drain gained a large set of armour on his chest that proved immune to four Advanced Zeo Laser Pistol blasts and dozens of punches from the Red Battlezord.
  • Depth Perception: Main Drain had depth perception despite only having one eye.
  • Speech: Main Drain could speak despite lacking a mouth.
  • Balance: Main Drain remained upright despite the strong earthquake caused by the Red Battlezord re-emerging.
  • Energy Absorption: Main Drain's signature ability where he could stab his tail into his enemies in order to drain their energy and gain more power.
    • Ambient Absorption: Main Drain could seemingly gain energy from the air around him, growing armour when confronted by the Zeo Megazord without doing anything.
    • Power Draining: Main Drain's main ability where he could use his tail to drain his enemies of their power by stabbing it into them.
  • Energy Balls: Main Drain could fire pink balls from his face which were strong enough to knock back the Zeo Megazord.
  • Ear Missiles: Main Drain could fire the ear-like spikes on his head as projectiles although the Zeo Megazord Saber destroyed them.
  • Lightning Barrage: Main Drain's most powerful attack where he launched blue lightning from every spike on his body. This caused enormous explosions, took down four Zeo Rangers with one hit, crippled the Zeo Megazord and broke the Zeo Megazord Saber. The attack was so devastating that, according to Alpha, it would take 3.6 days to repair the damage to the Zeo Megazord.

Arsenal[]

  • Fists: Although he had no weapons of his own, Main Drain could fight off the enemy with his bare hands.
  • Power Tail: Main Drain's tail had a long thin wired tail with a pointed tip that he could use to sneak up on and stab into the enemy. Using this tail, he could drain and devastate the enemy Zord by sucking up all its power.

Trivia[]

  • In Ohranger, Main Drain was giant by default without being enlarged by Klank and Orbus. As such, they had to insert Silo's growth sequence for Main Drain and insert a shot of him already giant; just with added effects.
