Malaika is a supporting character in "The National Anthem," the series premiere of Black Mirror. She is a journalist covering the kidnapping of Princess Susannah and the subsequent ransom request for the Prime Minister to have sex with a pig.
She is portrayed by Chetna Pandya.
Personality[]
While not much is known about her personality, Malaika seems to present herself as somewhat outgoing, to a certain extent. She also appears eager to cover as many big news stories as possible, much like the DC character Lois Lane. Malaika even has a seductive side to her, since she sent explicit pictures of herself to someone who works for the government.
Role in the episode[]
Malaika is one of the journalists in charge of maintaining civility during the chaotic media coverage of Princess Susannah's kidnapping and the demands of the culprit (eventually revealed to be the artist Carlton Bloom) for Prime Minister Michael Callow to engage in bestiality with a pig. During the armed raid of the decoy building from where the video was first posted, Malaika first hears about said raid from a government staff member, to whom she has sent sexually explicit selfies. Having filmed the scene, Malaika is shot in the leg as she tries to flee.
