Malcho has returned, mis amigos!
~ Malcho
At last, Thundra! The reign of the Rainbird is over! And the Season of the Serpent begins!
~ Malcho seeking revenge against Thundra.

Malcho is a large dragon feathered god-like monster who is an enemy to Iago, Thundra, and later Aladdin in the Aladdin TV series. He serves as the main antagonist of the episodes "Rain of Terror" and "The Return of Malcho."

Malcho is a sly and deceptive individual, who craves power and world-domination. He can be arrogant but is patient and vengeful against those who defeated him.

He is based on the Mesoamerican deity Quetzalcoatl.

He was voiced by Héctor Elizondo, who also voiced Bane and Kragger in the DC Animated universe, Jargis in the first episode of The Pirates of Dark Water, Wan Shi Tong in Avatar: the Last Airbender, Fiero in Elena of Avalor, The Dooka of Yookia in the 2019 Netflix series Green Eggs and Ham and portrayed Mr. Grey in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three and Hassan Salah in Columbo.

History[]

Malcho was originally the Ruler of the Rainforest, commanding the weather with a magical amulet. He soon became corrupted by the power to control the weather and sought world domination, but was somehow defeated by Thundra the Rainbird, who stole his amulet to use the powers it held for good.

Roles[]

Rain of Terror[]

In his debut, Malcho observed Iago convincing Thundra to take a weekend off from her responsibilities and entrusting the amulet to the parrot. Seizing this chance to reclaim his powers, Malcho managed to steal the amulet from Iago, proclaiming the age of the rain bird was over, and the Season of the Serpent has begun.

Utilizing his old powers, Malcho planned to destroy Thundra as revenge, but she, Genie, Abu, and Iago managed to escape and hide within the rainforest. Malcho discovered Iago, who decided to side with the serpent and revealed to him the hiding place where Thundra, Abu and Genie were. Imprisoning them, Malcho immediately began to plan on what to do for world domination, but Iago convinced Malcho to do revenge before duty.

The parrot then tricked Malcho into using a spell from Thundra's book to summon the Arctic Wind, which backfired on the winged serpent, freezing him solid in a nearby waterfall, allowing Iago to recover the amulet for Thundra. Malcho was thereafter banished to the North Pole, with his froze form being hurled to the north by Genie.

The Return of Malcho[]

Sometime after being banished, Malcho somehow thawed out and flew to Agrabah to exact revenge on Iago for banishing him to the cold. Once there, Malcho furiously confronted Iago and revealed that he decided to eat the parrot. Though he tried several times to capture and devour Iago, Malcho was thwarted again and again by Aladdin, the acting Sultan in the absence of the real Sultan, and the Royal Guards.

Malcho was then lured onto a dormant volcano, seeing that Aladdin and the guards were intending to sacrifice Iago to the serpent in exchange for leaving Agrabah in peace. But it was a trap set especially for Malcho in an attempt to get rid of the serpent once and for all. Setting the volcano off, Aladdin and the guards imprisoned Malcho in the volcano and believed him to be defeated.

However, Malcho began to break free of his second prison, proclaiming that he would forget about Iago, and that when he is freed from the volcano, Aladdin would be his.

Personality[]

Malcho was a cold, rigid, boastful, contemptuous, ruthless, harsh and sour personality. He didn't understand jokes, he couldn't be happy and cheerful, only when he showed off his own strength and when others spoke of him in praise. However, his personality is in some ways much more complex and interesting.

Malcho was both very vengeful and very calm, which is very rare for villains. The scaly dragon snake wanted bloody and cruel revenge for almost every injury, and if it was unsuccessful, it would invariably threaten its enemies that it would return and they would greatly regret it. However, very interestingly, when he fought or started to boast about his strength, his anger immediately disappeared and his personality changed to a calm, cold and haughty demeanor.

Malcho was extremely narcissistic, power-hungry and arrogant, he believed he was the most powerful, no one could defeat him, the power of the medallion brutally intoxicated him, his pride and superiority became so great that he believed he could do anything, no one could stop him and he could be the sole ruler of the world. At the same time, this was his most important weakness, his narcissism and arrogance blinded him so much that he could easily be fooled, deceived, or tricked, causing everything to collapse almost like a house of cards.

Malcho's sadistic gaze and smile as Genei suffers in the lightning cage he created.

However, it is clear from Malcho's behavior that he is not only evil and cold, but also sadistic. He already had a gloating, malicious, and suffering-demanding behavior and style, but when he saw or himself caused the suffering of others, he smiled, laughed, was satisfied, and proud.

Malcho, in short, was a power-hungry, narcissistic sadist who tried to subjugate anyone and everyone while flaunting his power and enjoying the suffering of others.

Powers and Abilities[]

Malcho was perhaps one of the least known but biggest threats of the Aladdin villains. After obtaining Thundra's medallion, Malcho became an incredibly powerful evil being and began to pose a real threat to the world. He was able to control and manipulate the weather, as well as the five elements: fire, water, earth, air, and quiescence. Malcho was able to easily create clouds, storms, lightning, rain and powerful windstorms, bringing the weather under his complete and chaotic control. In addition to these, he was also capable of special summonings, for example, he created a large pyramid of clouds protected by a storm cage, he could summon unlimited rain, half a dozen or more lightning bolts at once, and he could summon any number of dark storm clouds around him, thus becoming an almost unlimited ruler of the weather.

Even without the pendant, he was a very strong evil creature. Since it was a huge and long winged snake, his physical strength far exceeded that of an average human, he could fly, and he had sharp teeth. Malcho was an excellent close combatant. If he focused, he reacted quickly and effectively, biting, slapping its opponents with its tail, and could fight surprisingly well with he wings raised. It was able to clench its wings into fists, perform punching and slapping movements with them, and squeeze his opponents with its tail, especially smaller creatures.

Trivia[]

  • In his debut, Malcho has a deep Spanish accent. However, in his second appearance, he loses the accent and his voice is much deeper.
  • He is the second villain that Iago betrayed in the series (the first being Jafar).
  • Interestingly, before his third return, Malcho had completely black hair and his skin was a reddish-purple color. However, he escapes and returns from the North Pole with dark gray hair, with white streaks on both sides, and his skin a pale, dry, purple color. A theory could arise here that Malcho's aging accelerates when he is in a cold area, which is also supported by the fact that he himself angrily tells Iago that he really hates the cold.
