Biography[]
Malcolm Hathaway is an overly enthusiastic and woefully inept hostage negotiator in A Jones for a Smith. When Stan was caught breaking into Greg and Terry's house to steal items for crack money, the police surrounded the scene. Enter Malcolm, bursting onto the scene with unwarranted confidence.
His approach to negotiation was, at best, unconventional. Instead of de-escalating the situation, he escalated it by sending an additional child into the house as a "new hostage" and then inexplicably offering Stan cash and a private jet—neither of which Stan had even asked for.
With his newfound resources, Stan took the jet and fled the scene. Malcolm, inexplicably proud of his "success," celebrated by planting an unwanted and awkward kiss on Hayley, who recoiled in disgust.
As the cherry on top of his disastrous intervention, Malcolm then ordered the police to open fire—on Greg and Terry, the actual hostages, cementing his reputation as one of the most bafflingly incompetent negotiators ever.
