Still, it'd be tragic if there was an accident on the way to the brig.
~ Reed, suggesting that Forrest be killed.

Malcolm Reed is a character in the Star Trek Mirror Universe, who wafirst introduced in the Enterprise episode In a Mirror, Darkly". He was an officer in the Terran Empire's Imperial Starfleet.

Just like his prime universe counterpart, he was portrayed by Dominic Keating.

History

By 2155, Reed was the tactical officer and head of the MACO detachment on the Enterprise, under the command of Captain Maximilian Forrest. Working with the mirror Phlox, he developed the infamous agony booth, which was used to punish infractions committed by members of the Imperial Starfleet.

He supported Jonathan Archer when Archer mutinied against Captain Forrest. When Reed suggested that Forrest meet with an "accident" on the way to the brig, Archer said that if anything happened he would shoot Reed himself. At Archer's orders, he put Forrest in the booth to torture Forrest for information.

After T'Pol helped Forrest regain control of the Enterprise, Reed was ordered to spend some time trying out his invention for himself.

Reed later boarded the Defiant with Archer, T'Pol, Tucker, and Mayweather. They brought the ship on line when the Tholians attacked and using the superior firepower of the 23rd century starship managed to escape. While leaving they rescued survivors from the Enterprise, which had been destroyed by the Tholians.

Finding himself a nice red shirt on the Defiant, Reed worked as head of security and helmsman on the Defiant. He was seriously injured while searching for the Gorn Slar. Phlox stated the chances of Reed's recovery were 50/50, and noted that if Reed died there would probably be a number of discreet celebrations amongst the crew.

Reed later recovered from his injuries, but lost an eye in the process and wore a metal plate over the lost eye.

After Hoshi Sato assassinated Archer and forced the Empire to recognize her as Empress Sato I, she intended to have Reed killed due to his loyalty to Archer. The Empress was convinced by Captain Mayweather to spare Reed's life. Reed would later prove instrumental in rescuing Sato from a rebel faction lead by the Mirror T'Pau.

By 2160, Reed was the head of the Imperial Guard. As such he was one of the most feared men in the entire Terran Empire.
