Biography[]
Ither's Apprentice[]
Malik is first seen up a tree, being attacked by a two-headed snake. After being saved by Ither, Malik makes up a story about how he lost his family to Tormack and has been looking for Ither to use his magic against Tormack. Ither decides to take Malik as his apprentice.
Back in his hut, Ither shows Malik a flashback of the Golden Lance and how Galtar got it. He also states that the secret of taking its power away is in his mind so it can never fall into the wrong hands. Malik uses magic to create a rock formation that nearly sends Galtar, Goleeta, and Zorn off a cliff, but Ither saves them and explains that Malik still has a lot to learn. Zorn does not really trust Malik, but Galtar and Goleeta assume that Malik can mean them no harm.
Malik invites Galtar, Goleeta, and Zorn for supper. He arm wrestles with Zorn, but burns his hand in an attempt to cheat, which makes Zorn even more suspicious. He makes dindle pies for Galtar, Goleeta, and Zorn, but Zorn's ends up in his face. Incensed, he chases after Malik, but Malik teleports himself up a tree. Zorn uses his Skyscreamer to bring him down and into a bush. The two get into a brawl, but are forced to get out when they are covered in thorns.
The next day, Galtar and his companions leave for Bandisar. After they leave, Malik shows his true colors and starts attacking Ither. He reveals that he was sent by Tormack to steal the powers of the Golden Lance. The magic that Malik is using is Krimm's. Ither refuses to tell the secret, so Malik simply casts a spell that enables him to look into Ither's mind. After finding the secret (and being called a wretched runt by Ither), Malik uses his newfound power to turn Ither to stone.
Malik uses his magic to create a monster to waylay Galtar, Goleeta, and Zorn. The three are unable to stop it and are forced to flee. They go back to Ither's hut for some answers, only to find him turned to stone. Malik appears and asks for the Golden Lance, but Galtar refuses to comply with that demand. Undaunted, Malik teleports Goleeta and Zorn into a vulture's nest. Galtar tells Malik to bring them back, but instead, Malik teleports himself and Galtar back to the place where Galtar got the Golden Lance.
Malik uses his power to grab the Golden Lance and then sics a Serpent of Smoke on Galtar. Tormack, impressed by what he is seeing, sends Krimm to get the Golden Lance, with Krimm planning to imbue it with his dark magic. Fortunately, Goleeta and Zorn escape from the vulture and run to Galtar's rescue, whereupon Zorn throws his Skyscreamer at Malik. Unfortunately, Malik dodges it and then starts shooting at Zorn. Thinking quickly, Zorn uses his mind control powers to destroy Malik's amulet.
Malik loses his powers and Galtar is freed. The four return to Ither's hut, where Malik turns Ither back from stone and explains that he was threatened with being sent to Tormack's mines unless he did his part. Ither takes back most of Malik's magic, but leaves him with enough to turn Krimm into a toad.
