Mammoth (DC)

Baran Flinders, also known as Mammoth, is a minor antagonist from the DC Comics universe who first appeared in New Teen Titans #3. He is the young twin brother of Shimmer and a founding member of the Fearsome Five.

Biography[]

Australian Baran Flinders and his sister Selinda were bullied at school when their metahuman powers manifested. When the frustrated siblings used their powers against the local children, enraged and tearful adults tried to drive Baran's entire family out of town. As a compromise, his father brought his two children to the renowned Markovian scientist Dr. Helga Jace, who helped the siblings understand and expand their powers, while trying to instill a sense of morality in the two teenagers.

Taking the names Mammoth (Baran) and Shimmer (Selinda), the siblings became super-criminals, clashing with Superman, Justice League and both the Teen Titans and their adult iteration the Titans. Despite his immense power, Baran is by nature a flunky and hireling, happy to take orders from the likes of Mr. Twister, H.I.V.E., and his Fearsome Five leaders Doctor Light and Psimon as long as it leads to a big pay-off or cathartic fighting.

Mammoth later made a few appearances in the Post-Flashpoint continuity; with the Secret Society and alongside his Fearsome Five allies when they attacked Cyborg and the Metal Men. He also battled Superman and Wonder Woman, and was a henchman for the mysterious Mr. Whisper.
