Mandibugs are semi-common enemies featured throughout the Super Mario Galaxy duology.
They are invasive insects appearing either on home planets or invading the Honeyhive Galaxy. They have purple bodies and brass heads. Their bodies have the ground-pound symbol in white.
History[]
Super Mario Galaxy[]
Mandibugs feature first in the Honeyhive Galaxy. The player can defeat Mandibugs by ground-pounding on their backs once, flattening them. As the player progresses through this level, they encounter the Mandibug Stack in the level Trouble on the Tower. In the level Big Bad Bugaboom, the Mandibugs have invaded Honeyhive Galaxy. The Mandibug leader, Bugaboom attacks the player, but is ultimately defeated.
Super Mario Galaxy 2[]
In the Puzzle Plank Galaxy, the player encounters a puzzle block in the level "The Puzzling Picture Block". After the player completes the puzzle, an image of a Mandibug appears, and another Mandibug Stack attacks the payer. Defeating the Mandibug Stack produces a Power Star.
Personality[]
Mandibugs are shown to be the unfriendly neighbours of the Honeybees. The Mandibugs attack with speed and anger, and gnash their sharp pincers whilst screaming at Mario - suggesting they are quite primitive in nature. They are greedy and can be seen as pests that plague the galaxy.
Members[]
- Bugaboom - leader of the Mandibug Clan.
- Mandibug Stack - a mini-boss comprised of a small and a large Mandibug.
- Flipbugs - one-hit, weaker variants.
Trivia[]
- "Mandibug" is a portmanteau of "mandible" (referring to their pincers) and "bug".
