Manhunters (DC Animated Universe)

The Manhunters are the main antagonists of the Justice League episode "In Blackest Night".

They are group of robots that created the Guardians of the Universe to maintain peace and order in the universe before the Green Lantern Corps.

Their leader was voiced by James Remar, who also voiced Black Mask in The Batman, Silver Monkey in Beware the Batman, Shadow-Thief in Justice League Unlimited, Two-Face in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and Vilgax in Ben 10.

History[]

Before starting the Green Lantern Corps, the Guardains of the Universe created the Manhunters on Oa to help keep peace in the universe, believing that robots would make better peacekeepers than people. Unfortunately, due to the Manhunters' flawed programming, they did not understand the difference between good and evil, so rather than decommissioning them the Guardains reprogrammed the Manhunters for lesser duties, such as hunting, tracking, and guarding. While the Manhunters seemingly did not object to this, they were truly angered by this development and formulated a plan to frame John Stewart, a Green Lantern from Earth, and lure the Guardains away from Oa and steal the Lanterns' power source.

With the the help of pirate Kanjar-Ro, whom the Manhunters are paying, they create an illusion that makes it seem like John accidentally commented genocide, by causing a volcanic chain reaction on the planet, Ajuris 4. This act has damaged the Green Lantern Corps reputation and strained John's relationship with fellow Green Lantern. The Manhunters were then sent from Ajuris 5 by a tribunal of judges to apprehend John for his trial. After arriving on Earth, while searching for John, the Manhunters briefly fight against some of his Justice League teammates, until John, believing himself to gulity for the crime, willingly turns himself in.

As John's trial proceeds, the Manhunters prepare to start their attack on Oa, but the Justice League, who tracked John down to Ajuris 5, and believing that their teammate might be innocence of the crime, decide to investigate Ajuris 4's destruction. Just as John is pronounced guilty, and was sentenced to death, alongside the Flash, who John's lawyer to stall for time, Superman stops their execution, proves John's innocence, as Hawkgirl destroys the generator creating to show to everyone that Ajuris 4 was never destroyed, as the Manhunters have already began their attack on Oa. As the Justice League, and other Green Lanterns arrive to help the Guardains defend Oa, the Manhunters' leader seizes the Green Lanterns' power source to empower himself and become a giant. However, John is to absorb the power into his ring, and recites the Corp's oath, and expels the lead Manhunter from the power source, while Justice League and other Green Lanterns destroy the remaining Manhunters.
