Mantle is a supporting character in Dr. Stone. He is a minor antagonist in the Village Games Arc and a villager of Ishigami Village who idolizes Magma very highly. He wants to help Magma win the Grand Bout and become chief of the village.
He was voiced by Shin Matsushige is the Japanese version, and voiced by Sonny Strait is the English dub.
Appearance[]
He has small body structure in size, but big in belly, with visible chest-hair. His head is huge and resembles that of a Chinese Buddha statue's. He also has baggy eyes with elongated eyelids. His hair is also black and cropped short, and he also sports a beard as well.
Mantle's clothing consists of a ragged, green peasant tunic with a piece of rope acting as a belt. He also sports a fundoshi.
Personality[]
In contrast to Magma, he is often servile and submissive yet a cunning and devious man. He is usually seen as a yes-man who'd pander to Magma's every whim and faithfully follows as he says. A large majority dedicates of Mantle's appearances tends show much loyalty he has for Magma to the point of being accommodating to him, repeatedly trying to help him acquire the position of chief in any way possible, even to the point of throwing rocks and potentially injuring Kinro while he had an edge with his boss.
He also happens to fake putting on a polite facade but reveals to be a sadistic, dirty coward who's less of a fighter than Magma is, and yet he resorts to dirty tricks to attempt getting an advantage (even if it backfired on him and has to attempt hiding his intentions despite his shameless devotion to Magma).
Biography[]
He lives in Ishigami Village. The priestess Ruri needs a husband, who will become the new leader, since she is very ill. To determine him, the village holds a competition. Together with his assistant Mantle, Magma trains to be the winner.
During the village games, he tied up Suika and lied to the Kingdom of Science that she was drowning in order to distract and disqualify Kohaku from the fights. He also attempted convincing Kohaku to save Suika as a way to sabotage Stone's team from winning, which everyone could tell he was lying (for the most part).
