History[]
Past[]
In ancient times, Mara was worshipped in the Lost Delta Region, which would be known as Modern India. The Temple of the Forbidden Eye, which is located in said region, was built to dedicate Mara, who in legends, has the power to grant magical gifts to those who visit his temple. The gifts that he grants range from earthly riches, eternal youth, to even visions of the future. However, there is a catch that no one shouldn't look into Mara's eyes, lest they suffer his wrath.
Present[]
In 1935, Indiana Jones is exploring the Temple of the Forbidden Eye with the Jungle Navigation Company. After the company runs out of funds, due to the Great Depression, Jones' friend Sallah gives tourists (the riders) a chance to tour the temple, warning them to look into Mara's eyes. It is there where they are granted either eternal youth, earthly riches, or visions of the future.
However, the tourists do not heed Sallah's warning and look into the eyes of Mara. Enranged, Mara condemns the tourists to the Gates of Doom, but Jones saves them from this fate, telling them to go further into the temple. Then the tourists then see a statue of Mara again, trying to kill them once more with laser eyes. After the guests pass through some catacombs, they then encounter beetles and attempt to pass through a bridge after other unlucky tourists pass through, with the same Mara statue from earlier trying to kill them.
Once the tourists pass through the bridge, a snake tries to attack them, but the tourists escape just in time. After that, they go inside Mara's statue, where Mara's angry spirit reaches out to them. After going through another bridge, the tourists are attacked by his skeleton army. After evading the skeletons, they are nearly crushed by a rolling boulder, but Jones managed to save them, allowing them to leave the Temple of the Forbidden Eye.
