The Marauder Khanate, or The Horde, is a secondary antagonist in the video game Stellaris. It is a collection of previously feuding Marauder empires who prior to their unification under the Great Khan, were either busy killing each other or raiding the systems of more civilized star empires. Now though, they have become a unified fighting force, dedicated to bringing a prosperous and secure future for their people and the other denizens of the galaxy. Unfortunately, this involves requiring becoming a special type of vassal called a Satrapy and destroying all those who refuse. The horde is unified the Khan, who handles all diplomacy with other star empires, who can become a Satrapy to avoid being targeted by the horde for destruction, at the cost of allying themselves with the Khan and the horde, and giving up a certain amount of resources and naval capacity to the horde.
It is not possible to secure peace with the horde aside from becoming a Satrapy, as the Khan will just laugh in response to the player's demand for them to surrender and swearing that they will not stop until they secure a prosperous future for their people. The horde is so threatening that the galactic community can and oftentimes will declare them a crisis, forcing every empire to open their borders to everyone else and focus their resources completely to fighting and defeating the Khan.
While the Khan is intimidating, they will die if defeated twice in battle, to an assassination plot, or after 45 years have passed following the Horde's formation, with the the collective horde breaking apart into successor states all vying to be the Great Khan's successor and any Sartrapies becoming normal vassals.
