However, he shows a very soft spot when he's in love, willing to do everything it takes to get Sílvia, and later, Maria Paula. Also the affection he had for his son, even if on his own way.

Biography[]

First Stage[]

Juvenaldo was born in Igarassu, Pernambuco, being the oldest son of a very poor family. At some point, his father sold him to a conman called Hermógenes, and Juvenaldo is renamed into "Adalberto Rangel". Hermógenes teaches him all the cheats, and Adalberto goes around the country with a machine that supposedly could make money. After he grows up, he stole his own masters' money, and maintains contacts only with Bárbara, a peer of Hermógenes, who became a lifetime friend with Adalberto.

After presencing a brutal car accident on the road and rummage the car, he finds out the victims are rich, and had a daughter called Maria Paula, who now is the heir of their fortune. He finds out the "one in a lifetime opportunity" Hermógenes talked about, and decides to set up a scam against the new orphan. He goes to her town and comes up with a story about he presenting Maria Paula's parents demise, and them asking for him to take care of their daughter. He and Maria Paula had a short affair and get married, even with everyone surrounding Maria Paula suspecting of him. Their marriage is in a community of goods, and after Maria Paula gave him a free hand to run her goods, he runs away stealing all her money, but what he didn't know is that Maria Paula's left out pregnant of him.

After running away, he, taking the telenovela's title literally, makes a plastic surgery to get a new face, and changes his name to "Marconi Ferraço", moves to Rio, becomes a businessman, and a very respectable name of civil construction, and the only one who knows the truth about him is Bárbara. However, the bankrupt company he constructs his own under, left lots of people homeless and unemployed, and these, headed by Juvenal Antena, started the plan of building the slum “Portelinha”. Ferraço didn't like it since it could make it unfeasible to achieve his goals, and made an enemy out of Juvenal Antena.

After First Stage[]

Ferraço is living his life normally, currently having a girlfriend called Débora, but it's shown they don't have a very healthy relationship, and after the death of João Pedro Pessoa de Moraes, he finds out his daughter, Sílvia, was going back to Brazil, and starts his plan of attracting her, which slowly succeeds. In the meantime, Débora got pregnant, and tries to convince that Ferraço is the father, but he said about a vasectomy he did, and how that means it couldn't be his child, kicking her out humiliated, and leaving a free space for him to stay with Sílvia, and he eventually proposes her.

Maria Paula slowly starts her steps to localizing him, first a certain TV transmition where he showed up on the background, and she immediately recognizes him even with the plastic surgery, later she had a work opportunity in Rio, and moves to Rio with a will to search for him. After a while, she finds out about his new identity and the company he built with her money, and starts a plan to cause a public scandal against him. The day she decided to do this was the day of the 10th anniversary party of his company, Ferraço managed to make Maria Paula sound insane, but still, seeing the danger she might cause him, he masterminded a murder against her, but failed. During a talk with Bárbara, Sílvia overhears their talk and confronts Ferraço, he confesses his crimes, and Sílvia reacts positively to that, proving she's as malicious as he is, and they become partners in crime. He, in the same day of the scandal, announced a cement factory that would be built next to Portelinha, claiming it would do good for its habitants for the job opportunities, but due to its pollution, Juvenal immediately stands up against it. However, by a popular vote it ended up being constructed, but it ends up out of running due to an anonymous report regarding an accident that happened in the factory.

Even if left out for lack of proof, some people who already distrusted of Ferraço stayed on Maria Paula's side, like Juvenal Antena and Sílvia's mother, Branca. At the peak of his villainy he, after being humiliated during the formal announcement of the cement factory, decided to mastermind a slaughter, with the intention of kill Juvenal, which failed, but some people didn't leave this incident alive. Later, in order to convince his lawyer, Barreto, to accept taking his case against Maria Paula, he, with Sílvia's help ruins the relationship with Barreto's daughter with her boyfriend, as he hated the guy.

When Maria Paula reveals that she had a son with Ferraço, and that this is the trump card against him, he initially thinks she's bluffing, but after seeing the boy, and a certain gesture that was his own mark, he accepts the true, and has a breakdown, but after putting himself together, he schemes a plan to avoid Maria Paula to denounce him: Get Renato on his side. He got Sílvia to have small talks with Renato and slowly lure the kid to him. Later, he revealed the true about he being Renato's father, and came up with a story about how Maria Paula was the responsible for them never meeting, and how he had been searching for him until that point. Renato is easily persuaded by him, and is specially star-struck with Ferraço's wealth. It doesn't take long for Maria Paula to find out, and Ferraço come up with an agreement that she wasn't denouncing him. Even with this situation, she refuses to accept the agreement, and this forces Ferraço and Sílvia to live with Renato for longer than planned.

Those months with Renato made he slowly, even if he wouldn't admit, feels affection for his son, but also worsened his relationship with Sílvia, as he had to keep extra attention on him. This caused multiple arguments, what slowly made he gets more and more tired of Sílvia, with a highlight to a trip he meant to do with her, but he ended up inviting Renato, and after convincing Maria Paula to plan Renato's birthday party in his house. However, the last straw was when Sílvia convinced them to do again the same trip, which turned out to be a plan to kill Renato by drowning. The almost death of his son, was the realization point for him to realize he actually loved his son, and the implications that Sílvia made him drown on purpose, combined with her constant tantrums and the months he also had to maintain a relationship with Maria Paula, made him catch back his love for Maria Paula, and they ended up kissing.

Sílvia, who was already suspected of their involvement since the birthday party, and asks for her driver to catch some information about it, and had sex with him as "payment". Ferraço notices something was wrong and takes it as opportunity to end things with her, but before that, he proposes Maria Paula. After dumping on Sílvia, she invaded his house multiple times under different contexts, in one of them, he confirmed he's marrying Maria Paula, what he didn't know was that this marriage was part of the revenge against him. Maria Paula was advised by Juvenal to accept his proposal under her own conditions, and these conditions would be her way of "revenge". She makes a prenuptial contract under absurd conditions, and letting clear she was doing this for her son, but one of those conditions in specific was that he would need to search for his origins.

Sílvia under one of her attempts of revenge, makes a dossier of Ferraço's scam and anonymously sends it to Renato. Renato turns up against him, and Ferraço, feeling genuine regret and willing to reclaim his trust, convinces him to travel with him to Igarassu for him to search his origins, and Renato ends up accepting. There he remeets his mother and finds out all her children were sold at some point, and his father already died, and all of this made Renato regain his trust. During their wedding, Maria Paula almost refused to marry him, and makes him beg at his feet for her to accept, which he does, and she accepts marrying him, but still strong and willing to go on the prenuptial contract strictly.

The turning point was the day after the marriage, when Sílvia meant to invade his house to kill Maria Paula and Renato with a revolver, but during the mess, she shot Ferraço by accident, she has a mental breakdown and was sent to the hospice, while him, was sent to the hospital. In the hospital, he, in his most vulnerable side, finally makes things up with Maria Paula. She still won't accept to stay with him until he confesses his crimes to the police, which he relutantly accepts. While he was in the police station ready to confess his crimes, Renato was kidnapped by Sílvia, and while Renato was brought safe and sound, Sílvia was never found by the police. Ferraço went on with confessing his crimes and was arrest. 2 years later, he, now free, finds out Maria Paula scammed against him the same way he did back then, leaving nothing but a flight ticket. When he takes his flight to the destination, Maria Paula meets him, declares that they're now even, and they finally have their happy ending.
