Markus is the main antagonist of the manga adaptation of the Pokémon film Arceus and the Jewel of Life.
Biography[]
Markus had come to resent Arceus because he feared that Arceus would turn Michina into a wasteland if the Jewel of Life was returned to it. Markus was the real reason that Damos betrayed Arceus. He used his Bronzong's Hypnosis on Damos so that he would be under his control.
After he met Sheena, who had been sent to the past to stop Damos's betrayal to Arceus, he learned what the future would turn out to be as well as his own death. He later changed plans and decided to use silver water to kill Arceus. This proved to be very effective in wounding Arceus and causing it to be immobilized. Sheena and Damos communicated to his Pokémon and made them all stop attacking. Ash was able to make Marcus give up the Jewel of Life by wrestling with him until he dropped it. Deciding that finishing off Arceus was more important, Markus ordered his Pokémon to attack, but they did not respond, not even Heatran would accept his orders. Enraged, he kicked Heatran several times in the face, but was stopped by Pikachu using Quick Attack to free Bronzong and Heatran from their bonds. Heatran retaliated against Markus with a blast of fire, but Markus noticed that Arceus had stopped moving and gloated that he was victorious, demanding Ash hand over the Jewel of Life. However, Ash and Damos were able to get through to and revive Arceus. With the Jewel of Life reabsorbed, Markus despaired and activated a contraption to cause the temple to collapse, cackling as he was crushed to death by rubble.
Personality[]
Unlike his film counterpart, Markus lacks his good intentions, ultimately desiring godhood above all else. As a final act of spite, Marcus triggers a mechanism to collapse the temple in an attempt to kill Ash and the others, in sharp contrast to his film counterpart, who goes on to work with Damos to make Michina fertile again, laughing all the while. In addition, he's also a sadistic Pokémon abuser; this is shown when he kicks his Heatran repeatedly out of anger.
