I feel no shame in what I do. The needs I feel. No, if I can murder someone everyday, I would be the happiest man on the planet. Oh, I don't know -- maybe I'd lose the taste for it. You know, like when you eat too many chips.
~ Marcus callously explaining his homicidal urges.

Marcus Lindsey is a minor antagonist in The Rookie, serving as the main antagonist of season 4 episode "Fire Fight".

He is a serial killer/arsonist with a spree going back a decade and is the attempted killer of Officer John Nolan.

He is portrayed by Maury Sterling.

Biography[]

Not much is known of his past, though Marcus has been the neighbor of Fred, a LAFD Captain for a while and they were good friends.

Poetic Justice[]

He makes his debut at Fred's barbecue, where he gave off the appearance of a well-liked man, as Fred once let Marcus house sit for him while he was away, though never lets him live it down that he ate all of Fred's chocolate ice cream. Marcus jokingly defended himself and shared a laugh with every. He gets acquainted with John and Bailey.

Fire Fight[]

Marcus emerges from his house with Fred's house goes up in an explosion. He watches from afar as Nolan, Bailey, and Lopez barely manage to survive though Bailey is injured from the debris. Marcus seemed to be extremely horrified by Fred's fate, along with the rest of the neighbors.

Much later, he helps Nolan in the investigation while apparently seeking justice for Fred. Nolan happily accepts and promises to find who did this to Fred. That night, Nolan finds Marcus paying respects in front of the charred remains of Fred's house. Nolan tells him that they haven't found a lead before he answers a call from Bailey. While on the phone, Nolan notices a burn scar on Marcus' lower while recalling how the latest victim of the arsonist described such a mark. Nolan becomes suspicious of Marcus and tries to hide it before he and the latter part ways. However, Marcus realized that Nolan was onto him and struck the latter with his car before spraying him in the face with a drug laced substance, knocking him out.

The next day, an injured Nolan awakes to find himself in an abandoned building while held captive by Marcus who reveals himself as the arsonist/murderer that he was investigating that killed Fred. Marcus noticed that Nolan was still drowsy and proceeded to wake him by stomping his wounded leg, snapping the latter awake. He soon reveals he has been carrying out this spree for a decade but had successfully evaded the authorities by moving off the grid each time. Marcus then remarks when he moved to Los Angeles because he believed his crimes would go unnoticed, due to the crime rate in the city but mentions that Nolan and the latter's girlfriend Bailey Nune were the only ones to get close than anyone. Marcus voices his intentions to once more go off the grid but not before one last hunt. When Nolan seemingly passes out, Marcus tried to awake him, but Nolan reveals this was a trick to get him off-guard and Marcus falls but laughs that this was what he was looking for.

When Nolan questions his motive, Marcus reveals that he actually does it for the adrenaline of the hunt and compares to an addict. He further reveals that he has no remorse in his crimes and does it to satisfy his urges. A disgusted Nolan asked him if he was ever called crazy and he coldly says his victims have and he burnt them all to ash before they could tell anyone else. Marcus releases Nolan, though sprays him again with the substance in order to have an edge against him.

A twisted game of cat and mouse ensues, with Marcus taunting Nolan along the way in an attempt to force him out of hiding. Once he ran out of ammo, Nolan ambushed him and stabbed him in the gut with rusty scissors and forced him to retreat but he was far from finished and grabbed a shotgun before he wildly shot at Nolan. Soon Nolan managed to escape him and using Marcus' phone, he contacted help before hotwiring the car and striking Marcus with it, leaving him heavily wounded. Nolan then zip ties the battered Marcus' hands, proudly proclaiming his victory until passing out next to him. The two were found by Nolan's team and taken to the hospital, with Marcus being charged for his crime spree.

Trivia[]
