During the Cipher Pol's buster call on the island of Ohara, Mars along with Warcury, Ju Peter, and the other elders communicated with Professor Clover about his research into the Void Century. Mars along with the other elders wanted for Clover to cease his study. However, Clover continues to speak about the Ancient Kingdom which led Mars and the elders to have Cipher Pol agents murder them. After the Ohara genocide, Spandam approached them about his idea of retrieving the Ancient Weapons to use them against pirates, Mars gave Spandam permission to initiate the idea.
After Luffy defeated Crocodile in Alabasta Kingdom, Mars and the elders were concerned about news replacing Crocodile with a new pirate to maintain the Three Great Powers. They also discussing information on Shanks and Whitebeard. The elders were frustrated at Crocodile for his defeat and had him and his underlings sent to Impel Down. Mars and the elders also kept an eye on Luffy for his role in taking down a warlord.

After the Paramount War, the elders talked about recent developments. Mars commented on Silvers Rayliegh and Blackbeard. He noted that Blackbeard knows of Whitebeard territories as Blackbeard is gaining an infamous reputation in the New World.
When Doflamingo uses CP0 against the Straw Hats and Trafalgar Law, the elders and Akainu get into a heated discussion about the issue. They got news that Doflamingo have been defeated by Luffy and that the country has been reduced to rubble. Mars was not pleased to hear that Luffy has defeated Doflamingo. Like Crocodile, Doflamingo lost his warlord status and he was sent to Impel Down with his pirate crew.
During the Levely, Mars reviews documents with the elders when Shanks gets a brief meeting with them to tell them about an important pirate. After their meeting with Shanks, the elders prepare to meet Imu in the Empty Throne Room. They talked about the Nefertari Family. As they were in the throne room, the elders bow to Imu as they sit on the Empty Throne. They ask them what light should be extinguished from history. After their meeting with Imu, they meet with Cobra who discusses Queen Lily Nefertari and the meaning of the D. Imu returns to the Empty Throne Room and sits on the Empty Throne to their surprise. As Imu talks to Cobra, the elders draw their weapons on Cobra since he saw Imu. After Imu attacks Cobra for sharing Lili's full name as Nefertari D. Lili, Sabo comes out of behind a pillar to attack the elders. Mars is unfazed by the attack and transforms into a bird-like creature. Mars, the elders, and Imu attack Sabo and Cobra and attempt to murder them. The elders and Imu kills Cobra when he was protecting Sabo. Sabo escapes from the elders and Imu. The elders and Imu also notices Wapol watching them from a hole in the wall. Mars, the other elders and Imu spread a lie to frame Sabo as the murderer while also informing kings and queens at the Levely that Wapol will not be attending the Levely.

When Imu shares that they wanted to use the weapon on Lulusia Kingdom and that they are unconcerned about the population of the country, Mars agrees to Imu's judgement.
During the Wano raid, Mars and the elders kept an eye on the conflict. They intended to have CP0 kill Nico Robin during the raid and discussed the Sun God Nika devil fruit. Mars and the elders instructed Guernica to have Luffy killed in battle against Kaido. However, their plan failed as they lost one of their strongest agents to Kaido and Luffy defeats Luffy. The elders discussed how things have changed due to Kaido and Big Mom's defeat in Wano. After Lulusia Kingdom's destruction, the elders commented on Sabo being on the island during its destruction. The elders plan to have Saturn and the marines go to Egghead Island to deal with recent conflicts with Vegapunk.
Before Saturn arrives on Egghead Island, York contacts the elders to tell them about the situation on the island before briefly talking to Luffy before the call abruptly ended. After Saturn appears on the island, Mars and the other elders are concerned about the video that Dr. Vegapunk broadcasted and Ju Peter thinks the video is being broadcasted from the Labophase section on the island. Mars along with the other elders telepathically communicated with Saturn about Vegapunk's status where the latter tells them that he thinks that Vegapunk is dead and that he will prepare their summoning.
After Saturn prepares the summoning of the other elders onto Egghead Island, Mars in the form of the Itsumade flies towards the Labophase. Mars flies towards the barrier to try and penetrate it to get inside only for an explosion to happen where the barrier is left intact. Mars flew down to meet Rob Lucci. He asks Lucci where York is to which the CP0 agent informed him on her location and told him about the current situation on the island to Mars's satisfaction. As Mars flies back towards Labophase, Lucci requests that Mars spare his partner, Kaku's life as he is gravely wounded from his battles. Mars replies that it may not be possible as he refers to Kaku as an insect that he might step on. Mars eventually got to the location where York is at to ask her where the room is at that have the monitor. York is terrified to see Mars in his Itsumade form; unbeknownst to her that one of the Five Elders is speaking to her and tells him to go away. However, she soon realized that the Itsumade is Mars and began cooperating with him. Mars soon frees York and destroys the buildings but the broadcast did not stop. He detected a presence and went up to the Punk Record. He discovered Vegapunk's brain and the "Broadcasting" Den Den Mushi. He step on the Den Den Mushi but revealed it was a fake and the countdown is expired. He cursed Vegapunk for tricking him and the Elders. He and York struggles to search for the real broadcast Den Den Mushi but never find it.
Mars asks the other elders if they could just destroy the power plant, which Saturn and Warcury rejected it when not wanted to lose their military power and create another "Mother Flame". Mars uses his Conqueror's Haki to all the Den Den Mushi but they are still decoys. He was contacted by York thinking the real Den Den Mushi is inside of the Iron Giant. Mars recognized the Iron Giant to be the same mechanism that attacked Mary Geoise 200 years ago. He, alongside Warcury, Saturn, and Ju Peter attacked it. He later attacked the Giant Warrior Pirates' ship while claiming they would not escape. He is later shocked when Luffy and Bonney used the power of Nika. Mars attacks Luffy with his energy beam but failed and Luffy absorbing it. Luffy grabbed Mars by his wings and placed the Elder at his inflated body. Mars and the other elders are surprised at the new promotion and realizes that Saturn has been replaced.
Powers and Abilities[]
Mars possesses powers shared by all of the Five Elders, including apparent immortality, and the ability to communicate telepathically with the others and with Imu. He was shown able to teleport himself via the same pentagram portals used by Saturn, though it is not clear whether this was his own power or Saturn's.
His unnamed Mythic Zoan Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a Itsumade, a monstrous bird with both reptilian and human features, and can also transform into a hybrid of human and Itsumade. In this form, he can not only fly, but reach Labophase layer of Egghead quickly, piercing through the Frontier Dome with the island's anti-aircraft laser beams not hurting him in the least. He can also project globules of caustic poison and a beam of pure energy from his mouth that is powerful enough to rend metal and create flames capable of causing pain to Dorry and Brogy, both of whom are giants.
Much like the other Elders, he is skilled at several forms of Haki, including Observation and Supreme King techniques.

Trivia[]
- Like his other fellow Five Elders, Marcus Mars's name is taken from Mars, one of the planets of the Solar System.
- His Zoan-type transformation is based on the yōkai, Itsumade, a monstrous bird with the body of a snake that appears during disastrous situations.
- Given his appearance, he is believed to have been based on Itagaki Taisuke, a Meiji Japanese politician who founded the Freedom and People's Rights Movement and Japan's first political party, the Liberal Party in the late 19th century. Ironically, having introduced the concept of democracy to Japan, Itagaki is regarded as a national hero, unlike Mars, an evil man who seeks to accomplish the near-opposite.
