~ Margaret Hallman seducing Tommy Brown. |
Margaret Hallman is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "I Love You, Tommy Brown". She is a former high school teacher who slept with and bore a son by one of her students, and later kidnaps their child from his adoptive mother.
She was portrayed by Teri Polo.
Biography[]
Early life[]
An ephebophile, Hallman is sexually attracted to teenage boys, being too emotionally immature and unstable to have romantic relationships with adults.
She was originally an English teacher at Lake Forest High School in Seattle, Washington, but was quietly fired in 2007 after being caught having sex with one of her students, 15-year-old Johnny Lewis. She landed another teaching job at another high school, but her behavior did not change; she seduced 14-year-old Tommy Brown, by whom she became pregnant. In 2009, she was arrested for statutory rape, put on the sex offender registry, and sentenced to three years in prison.
She gave birth to a boy in prison and named him Johnny after her first victim, having never really gotten over him. Johnny was put up for adoption, and Hallman spent the rest of her sentence obsessing about getting him back. Meanwhile, Hallman's sister bought the Lewis family home and transferred the deed to her.
"I Love You, Tommy Brown"[]
Hallman is released from prison six months early due to overcrowding, and immediately starts searching for Johnny. She stalks adoptive parents in the area, hoping each couple is Johnny's adoptive parents. She first approaches John and Heather Miller, posing as a social worker. When she sees that their adoptive child is a girl, however, she flies into a rage and kills them both. She then kills Brian and Gayle Gilbert upon seeing that their adoptive child is from another country.
She finally finds Johnny's first foster mother, Sandra Montgomery, and talks her way into her house using the social worker ruse. Once inside, she holds Montgomery at gunpoint and demands to see the paperwork for fostering Johnny. She learns from the paperwork that, after being fostered briefly by Montgomery, Johnny was officially adopted by Karen Wilson. When a terrified Montgomery starts praying, Hallman begins screaming and shoots her dead.
Using the paperwork, Hallman finds Wilson and kidnaps her and Johnny. Wilson says she renamed the infant Ben, which makes Hallman so angry that she shoots Wilson and dumps her in an alley before driving away with Johnny. Wilson survives, however, and later gives information about her attack to the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), which is investigating Hallman's killing spree.
Hallman drives to Tommy's house and introduces him to his son, promising him that they will be together forever. They are interrupted by Tommy's neighbor and classmate, Julie Parker, who asks him out to a school dance. This provokes Hallman's jealousy, and she holds them both at gunpoint. When Julie tries to call the police, Hallman shoots her in the back. Hallman manages to persuade a horrified Tommy that she shot Julie so they could be together, and they drive to Johnny's house, where she tells Tommy they can raise their family.
Meanwhile, BAU Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia learns that Hallman now owns Johnny's house, and the other BAU agents go after her. When they appear at the house to arrest Hallman, she accuses Tommy of calling them, and points her weapon at him. Tommy protests to the BAU that he wants to be with Hallman and went with her willingly, but when Agent Derek Morgan tells him the truth about Hallman, the devastated boy turns on her. Hallman pleads her love for him, but Tommy, finally seeing her for what she is, drops the gun.
Desperate, Hallman grabs the weapon and tries to shoot Morgan, only for Supervisory Agent Aaron Hotchner to shoot her in the shoulder. As she loses consciousness, she murmurs, "I love you, Johnny Lewis". She is then charged with murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and violating her parole by having contact with a minor.
