Maria Sílvia Barreto Pessoa de Moraes, or simply Sílvia, was the main antagonist of the Brazilian Telenovela "Duas Caras" (Two-faced). She was the fiancée of the former villain and protagonist, Marconi Ferraço, and the arch-enemy of the protagonist Maria Paula, and her son Renato.
She was portrayed by Alinne Moraes, who also played Diana in "Rock Story", Isabel in "Espelho da Vida" and Bárbara in "Um Lugar ao Sol".
Appearance[]
Sílvia is a tall, young (around 25, as that was Alinne Moraes age at the time), woman with elegant posture. She has a long straight dark brown hair with bangs, light-colored skin and honey-colored eyes.
Her fashion style was elegant, but also youthful. Her color palette is very variable, but throughout the entire telenovela she mostly wore dark-colored clothes, or neutral tones.
Personality[]
Sílvia initially was calm, and overall a moderate person, it would take some chapters for her to reveal herself as spoiled, short-tempered, vindictive and explosive, some more to reveal she's also very petty and possessive.
At last, she also showed to be clinically dangerous, leading her to be sent to the hospice.
Biography[]
Sílvia lived by herself in Paris, and was brought back to Brazil after the demise of her father. Knowing she was back, and with interest on her, the former conman and businessman Marconi Ferraço, started his plan of attracting her, which suceeded, and they started dating, and Ferraço even proposed her. Initially, Sílvia was meant to go back to Paris, and not to have anything serious with Ferraço, but not liking the intrusion her mother (Branca) was having, she decides to stay and accept his proposal During it, she caught a beef with the housekeeper of Ferraço's house (Bárbara), due to the fact she was too intimate of him for someone who just works for him.
After Maria Paula caused a scandal and accused Ferraço of scamming against her and stealing all her money, Sílvia suspects it might be true and confronts Ferraço. Ferraço confesses it's true, and she surprisingly reacts positively, proving she's as malicious as he is. And from that moment, she becomes a partner in crime with him. To get in good terms with Branca, she convinced Ferraço to donate money to her university, but due to Maria Paula's scandal, she refuses the money, and this was the last straw for Sílvia, which declares she hated her, leading them to fight every time they met. She was conivent and a supporter to the slaughter of the slum "Portelinha" Ferraço schemed, and celebrated with him when the chief of Portelinha, supposedly died. After her father's mistress (Célia) revealed that her daughter (Clarissa) was his daughter as well and Sílvia's sister, and therefore owner of a part of the university, Sílvia made a DNA test to confirm it, and gives her own part a freedom hand, as she didn't mind the university at all, just to punish Branca.
After Ferraço found out he had a son with Maria Paula (Renato), and that he was the proof of his guilt, he, with Sílvia's help, manipulated Renato into staying by his side, and, with that, avoid Maria Paula to denounce Ferraço as Renato would hate her for it. After Maria Paula found out about his plan, it was already succeeded, but she refused to accept the agreement, making both Ferraço and Sílvia having to live with her and Renato for longer than planned. Sílvia was the one who was mostly against this situation, for not liking to share attention with Renato and would throw tantrums about it. This, and the fact Ferraço made a vasectomy (which couldn't be reversed) after the scam, and couldn't have a child from her, what made her very envious of Maria Paula. All of this among Ferraço slowly starting to genuinely feel affection for his son and later for Maria Paula again, would lead her to take the role of the main antagonist.
When Maria Paula was called to plan Renato's birthday party in Ferraço's house, Sílvia would often fight with her and Renato, later she would pretend regret and will of partnership, just to ruin his party by causing an "accident" throwing herself down the stairs. Later she attempted to murder Renato by drowning, convincing him to swim in a deep lake knowing he couldn't swim well, and after the dust settled, Ferraço accused her of trying to kill his son, which she denied. After all that, she, feeling jealous of the proximity of Ferraço with Maria Paula, made their driver (João Batista) follow Ferraço for further details, and as a "payment", she had sex with him, and he left a hickey on her neck, which made Ferraço find out quickly she cheated on him, and broke up with her, and kicked her out. She then goes back to Branca's house, and is willing to get her revenge from Maria Paula, having João Batista as her ally on it.
She invades Maria Paula's home to try to murder Renato once again, but is interrupted, and when Maria Paula finds it out she beats her up; She begs to get Ferraço back, but finds out he and Maria Paula were getting married, but not before she denounced him; She collects all the newspaper records of Maria Paula's case and sends anonymously a dossier to Renato; And invades Maria Paula's house to convince her not to marry Ferraço, and ends up arrest for home invasion.
She, still willing to get Ferraço back, decides to run her half of the university, and in the process, she confirmed to Célia that the DNA test was forged, and she wasn't Clarissa's sister, causing another scandal. After that, she invades Ferraço's house and tries to kill Maria Paula with a revolver, but during the situation she accidentally shoots Ferraço, and feels remorse. The shoot made her have a mental breakdown, and wants to run away back to Paris, and Branca seeing the mental state of her daughter sends her to a psychiatrist clinic. During her time there, she believed to be in a flight back to Paris, but she recovers a bit of sanity and finds her way out. She, then, kidnaps Renato and tries to kill him, but realizing the police would find her she runs away. During her run, she is hit by a car, and it's shown the driver felt sorry for her. It's implied that that man took care of her and they fell in love, but what is shown is her last moments back in Paris with the man, and she, in a letter to Branca, explicitly says she doesn't want to come back to Brazil.
