Marie Bordeaux (née Grady) is a minor villain in the Facebook murder mystery game Criminal Case, being the main antagonist of case #19 of the Pacific Bay season, "Cloudy with a Chance of Murder."
Appearance[]
Marie is a 43-year-old woman with blue eyes, neck-length black hair, and dark red lipstick. She wears a white dress shirt with blue stripes under a black jacket. She also wears two necklaces one with a triangular gold brooch, and another with a locket containing a photo of her late daughter, Colette.
Personality[]
Marie seemed to have been a very loving mother to her daughter Colette, to the point that her death caused her such extreme grief that she not only disowned her brother (whom she felt was responsible for the death) but also felt she had to kill him if she would ever hope to get over her grief and anger.
History[]
Weeks before the events of the case, Marie's daughter Colette died in Hurricane Yves. Because Marie's brother and Colette's uncle, weatherman Clifford Grady, failed to predict the hurricane and chose to save himself over Colette when the hurricane struck, Marie considered him responsible for her daughter's death, and thus no longer considered him family. When Clifford refused to even show up to Colette's memorial service, that was the last straw for Marie, and she decided she would have to kill Clifford to get over the pain of Colette's death. She took a weed whacker from Clifford's backyard and cut his throat with it, leaving him to bleed out.
When the player character and Amy Young, two members of the Pacific Bay Police Department, found Clifford's body and opened a murder investigation, Marie became a suspect after they found and pieced together an invitation to Colette's memorial service addressed to Clifford. When Amy and the player character questioned Marie about the invitation, she told them about her daughter's death in Hurricane Yves and how she blamed the victim for her death, since he had failed to predict the hurricane. She also revealed that Clifford had refused the invitation to come to Colette's memorial service to apologize to Colette's family for his part in her death.
Amy and the player interrogated Marie a second time when they found a photo of Clifford and Colette in Clifford's backyard, which showed Clifford to have been Colette's uncle, and therefore Marie's brother. Marie angrily stated that she no longer considered Clifford family because not only did he fail to predict the hurricane that caused her death, but had also chosen to save himself instead of Colette when the hurricane did strike, something Marie claimed she could never forgive Clifford for.
At the end of the investigation, Amy and the player character went to arrest Marie when all the evidence pointed to her as Clifford's killer. At first, she denied the charges, claiming that she was just a grieving mother and not a murderer, but she was ultimately forced to admit her crime in face of the overwhelming evidence and was taken to court to face judgment.
At Marie's trial, Judge Edward Dante stated that she had killed Clifford in revenge for her daughter, but was also shocked that she had killed her brother. Marie confessed to committing the act but tried to defend herself by saying Clifford was responsible for her daughter's death and that she would never be able to get over the grief unless she did something about it. Despite her attempted defense of herself, Judge Dante sentenced her to ten years in prison with a chance for parole in five years, hoping that the time spent behind bars would be enough for her to get over the grief of losing her daughter.
